Legislative regulation

The basic information about what types of state support people who have suffered from the Chernobyl accident can count on is contained in Federal Law No. 1244-1. On the basis of this normative act, anyone with this status can count on extraordinary leave at any convenient time.

  • citizens who have suffered various diseases caused by radiation exposure.

Additional leave to Chernobyl residents does not depend on the length of service of a citizen, on his average earnings or the use of basic leave at work. It does not matter what position the person is working in. He must confirm his status with an official certificate issued by the state.

What documents are required?

Chernobyl residents are offered additional leave only if the employee has documents confirming this status. They must be received in advance, and they confirm that the citizen really belongs to those affected by the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

To receive benefits, the following documentation is prepared:

  • Passport of a citizen. If a person lived in infected areas, then his passport must have a corresponding mark. If the document was lost, then in the passport office you can take a certificate stating that he lived in the exclusion zone or even in the infected areas.

The duration of the additional and fully paid leave for people who are Chernobyl victims is 14 days. It is provided annually.

If the days of rest coincide with illness or temporary disability, then on the basis of the requirements of the Labor Code, vacation days are extended or postponed, and the choice is made by a direct citizen.

In order to take advantage of the benefits provided by the additional leave, certain actions are taken. Although funds are paid to the FSS, the procedure still begins directly at the citizen’s place of work. To do this, the following actions are carried out:

  • initially, the employee compiles a statement addressed to the head of the company, which indicates the need to receive annual paid leave on the basis of belonging to a privileged category;

  • It is written in the name of the head of the organization;
  • it sets out a request to issue additional days of rest;
