Almost every driver is familiar with the situation when he tries to slip into the yellow light of a traffic light. Some do it, but in most cases, the driver crosses the stop line precisely at a red light. What does this threaten? Naturally, a fine is supposed to be imposed for traveling to the red light in any case, but for some reason this is not very scary for the drivers.
By the frequency of detection of such a violation by traffic police inspectors and fixation cameras, movement with a red signal is comparable to exceeding the permissible speed. Because of this, there are many accidents at the intersection of roads. Therefore, it is impossible to ignore the rule in any case, and the fine for driving at the red light of a traffic light is a completely justified and even mild measure.
Fine size
Article 12.12 of the Code of Administrative Offenses describes what responsibility should be placed on drivers for ignoring traffic lights. In particular, it indicates:
- For driving on a red signal, the driver will be forced to pay a fine (1,000 rubles). It does not matter how the violation was recorded (by cameras or traffic police inspectors).
- Repeated violation of this requirement is punishable by deprivation of rights for a period of up to six months or a fine (5,000 rubles).
Note that repeated is a violation of the rules committed within 12 hours after the first. That is, after the specified time has passed after driving to the red signal, you can again go to the red signal, for which you will have to pay 1,000 rubles again.
If the violation is recorded by the road camera, then the offender is notified by registered mail.
Deprivation of rights
The court may deny driving privileges for such a violation. However, most often the inspector is limited only by a fine. If he stops the intruder, then in the course of communication he can find out what caused the passage to the inhibit signal. If the culprit admits his mistakes and behaves appropriately, then with a high probability the case will not go beyond the fine for traveling to the red light.
In another situation, the inspector may bring the matter to court, where he will raise the issue of depriving the driver of his rights.
The fact is that not everyone understands what the term "prohibiting signal" means. Most think it is a red light. Although in fact there are three types of signals that do not allow further movement:
- Red light (flashing or stable).
- Yellow with red.
- Yellow. This is the most difficult case. A yellow light allows the driver to complete the maneuver. If, for example, the driver drives up to the stop line at a green light at speed and sees a light switch to yellow. He can freely complete the maneuver. Some participants in the movement, being far from the stop line, see the switching of green light to red, gain speed in order to have time to slip to yellow. It is not right. Such an action will be regarded as driving through a red light. A penalty for such a violation will follow necessarily.
The purpose of the yellow signal is to allow road users to complete the maneuver, rather than start a new one. For ignoring the driver’s signal, they can be accused of violating traffic rules. This takes into account other errors that have occurred. For example, driving on red and turning right when banning such a turn is regarded as a double violation and the corresponding punishment.
Red Cross Pass
Crossing the railway crossing is prohibited if the red light is on and the barrier is lowered. If the driver ignores this rule, then he will face a fine (1,000 rubles) or loss of license (up to 6 months).
Reverse traffic light
Special care requires a road with a reverse lane.If there is a red light above it, then this means that at the moment it is a band in the opposite direction, and, therefore, movement along it will be equated to movement in the oncoming strip. Note that this is one of the most severe violations regarding driving on a red signal, and the punishment for it is corresponding.
According to the rules, for a trip to the “oncoming lane” the driver can be taken away from him for a period of 4 to 6 months. It is also possible and a fine for driving into a red light of a traffic light with a further exit into the oncoming lane. Its size will be 5,000 rubles.
Reverse traffic light prohibits the driver from driving in a lane with the following signals:
- Red light.
- Yellow (requires fast lane change)
- There are no signals at all (does not work).
Stop after stop line
Many drivers stop at a red signal for stop lines. However, this is also prohibited. For such a violation, the traffic police may pay a fine for traveling to the red light (800 rubles). This is explained by the fact that vehicles located behind the stop line impede the movement of other cars and pedestrians.
If the driver crossed the mark on the green signal, then he can complete his maneuver. Also, it should be borne in mind that it is forbidden to leave the stop line if there is a traffic jam at the intersection. A stop at the intersection, even if there is a traffic jam, is a violation of the rules and will entail a fine (1,000 rubles).

The punishment for him should be tightened, and then the level of safety on the roads would increase.
