Density of plywood and its main characteristics

The density of plywood, its strength, and sometimes moisture resistance made this material popular. Plywood is selected individually, it all depends on specific goals. For the private consumer, one of the most important characteristics is moisture resistance. This parameter allows you to use the material as a formwork.

Material density

Plywood density

Plywood density is one of the most important factors when choosing. This parameter will depend on the raw materials used in the manufacturing process. As it is used veneer. If it is made of coniferous wood, the density will be 550 kg / m3while when using birch in the production process, the density increases and will be equal to 700 kg / m3. Due to the fact that birch veneer plywood has a high density, it is considered today the best among similar solutions.

What else you need to know about density

plywood sheet

Some believe that the density of laminated plywood is higher compared to conventional material. However, there is a protective coating on the surface, which affects the level of durability and water-repellent characteristics. If we are talking about SVEZA birch plywood, the density will vary from 640 to 700 kg / m3.

Material thickness

Another important characteristic when choosing plywood is the thickness of the sheet. For internal work and arrangement of formwork, panels are used, the thickness of which varies from 2 to 12 mm. Thin sheets are suitable for making furniture, while thicker sheets are excellent wallcoverings.

This material is also used for flooring installation. If you want to make the floor waterproof, you should use sheets whose thickness varies from 8 to 10 mm. If the rough coating has slight irregularities, then the thickness should be increased to 12 mm.

Weight Information

The density of plywood is as important as the weight of the material. The last parameter sometimes plays a key role, because when building different structures, the load on the foundation is important. The weight of 1 sheet of birch laminated panel will be 25 kg, while the dimensions of the canvas will be as follows: 2440 x 1220 mm. These parameters are true if the sheet is 12 mm thick. Knowing the weight of a plywood sheet, you can easily calculate the total load of the material.

Conclusion

Thanks to the unique manufacturing technology, which involves the bonding of wood-fiber fibers, it was possible to obtain plywood. Today it is used everywhere and has outstanding technical characteristics.
