It is not possible to set the date for the unofficial start of bilateral relations between the Russian and Azerbaijani people, since they go back centuries. However, the current stage in relations between the two countries and the emergence of the Azerbaijani embassy in Moscow are connected with 1992, when the foreign ministers signed the corresponding agreements. The first ambassador of the Russian Federation to Azerbaijan was Walter Schonia.
Embassy of Azerbaijan in Moscow
Today, the Azerbaijani embassy occupies a historic mansion, built at the beginning of the 19th century and reconstructed in 1905. The architectural monument is located in the old Moscow district of Presnya and wall to wall borders on the Ukrainian embassy. The exact address of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Moscow: 1600 Leontievsky Lane, Moscow, 125009.
The embassy manages the full range of issues in bilateral relations: trade, cultural cooperation, education and international security. Despite the fact that relations between the two countries are at a very high level, and trust between political leaders has been established for a long time, they cannot be called cloudless.
The main problems of bilateral relations
Although trade and economic cooperation plays a leading role in bilateral relations, political issues significantly affect communication between Russia and Azerbaijan.
For one quarter of a century, the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh, the Azerbaijani territory occupied by Armenia, to which Russia provides comprehensive political and economic support, remains one of the most painful.
Economic cooperation
However, no problems can completely destroy bilateral relations. The interpenetration of cultures and economies of the two countries is so significant that trade and economic interaction overshadows other problems. The share of hydrocarbons, agricultural products and machinery is high in the trade balance between the countries.
In addition, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Moscow is actively engaged in expanding military-technical cooperation with Russia.
