The long-lived grandmother told where in the old houses the treasures were most often hidden

Surely there are millions of dreamers in the world like me. From early childhood, it seemed to me that I took out a casket from a recess in the wall of an old house, and in it - untold wealth. It was necessarily a wooden chest. Looking for treasures is in the blood of our family. My maternal great-grandfather was a true treasure hunter. Naturally, I did not find him during my life, but my grandmother told many incredible stories about her father and shared secrets.

I am very pleased that I found a soul mate who is interested in my hobby. We still sometimes travel outside the noisy city, find old houses and look for treasures there.

What the ancestors say

Treasure hunting probably originated when people began to build houses for the first time and they had certain material values that could be accumulated. Therefore, there are many real tips on how to find a treasure. Ancestors say that relying solely on luck in this matter is not worth it.

It is advisable to have an assistant, appropriate equipment and, of course, faith in success.

Old buildings

My grandmother said that it was desirable that this was the construction of the royal period, the older, the better.

Determining the age of the wooden structure is not difficult. Pay attention to nails. If the house is really built long ago, then it will not have factory-made nails.

By the way, there has been a case in my life. My husband and I found a description of an old abandoned house, but I won’t say where it is located. One weekend we went to him. At first, we always carefully inspect the building from the outside, and only then inside. After a short examination, we noticed that all the nails of the house were made at a local enterprise. It turned out that the house was built after the revolution, but soon after the construction they left it for unknown reasons and so didn’t settle in it anymore. Since he was standing on the outskirts, he was long forgotten, and he quickly deteriorated.

Local residents have confirmed that the house was built around the 20s of the last century. So you should not completely trust information on the Internet.

The houses of prosperous people were often made of stone or five-walled logs. This is another sign that gives more hope that a treasure will be found in the house. Two floors in the house is also a sign of the high well-being of its residents.

We will definitely start with an external examination. The so-called mortgage coins were always hidden in the corners under the houses. And if a really wealthy family lived in the house, then coins can be found at every angle. It can be a copper nickel or a silver coin.

Often a treasure can be found in the foundation, this place is one of the most suitable treasures for shelter.

Windows of houses

My grandmother always taught me that it is necessary to start the search by examining the platbands and window frames.

In such places, small silver items were often hidden: coins, pendants, spoons. In the platbands we even found receipts and pens for writing. Of course, this is not a treasure, but it is so interesting to consider a check written in beautiful calligraphic ink.

Inspection inside

You should also look for a treasure under your feet. It can be cracks on the floor and skirting boards. In such places, it is also unlikely to find anything truly valuable. But it can be a gold ring that rolled under the baseboard and they forgot about it, or a silver coin.

By the way, in one of the merchants' houses, in the corner of one of the rooms, I managed to find a gold chain and, strangely enough, a little Soviet trifle.

My grandmother said that you need to tap or try to find a floor board that is staggering.In such a place, after dismantling the cover, you can really find treasures or the entrance to the dungeon.

It is necessary to examine all the doorposts and thresholds. These are also places where treasures can be stored. The search is best done with a metal detector.

Be sure to inspect the oven. Often, something valuable can be found at the top of the masonry stove, near the hole for cleaning the chimney.

After that, you can go to the attic. According to statistics, it is in the attics that it is most often possible to find a treasure. A treasure tank is often thrown with all kinds of trash.

Camping preparations

Even a small treasure expedition requires careful preparation. From my own experience I can say that you must take with you:

  • a flashlight and batteries (rechargeable batteries) to it;
  • a screwdriver that will help open the floor, other tight-fitting objects;
  • small crowbar;
  • folding rake or chopper;
  • metal detector;
  • gauze bandage on the face or respirator.

We always take replaceable clothes, finding a treasure is a really dirty business.

When is it better to go on an expedition

We prefer to do this in spring or autumn. Off-season is not so hot and not cold.

The best time of day to start the search is early morning, from 5 o’clock. It is already light at this time, but there are few people on the streets. And what a curious people we have, we all know very well.

The initial inspection takes up to 3 hours. Usually, if we don’t fit and have the opportunity to stay the next day, we will postpone further inspection the next morning.

Search for treasure is also necessary on the verandas, in buildings, chimneys. In fact, treasure hunting is an interesting activity. I am sure that my husband and I will never abandon this hobby and someday we will find a real treasure.
