A 100 pound note will be sold for $ 365,000. How is this possible?

The difference in the value of rare banknotes is often amazing, but the Australian banknote of £ 100 was the record holder. Today it costs several times more than on the day of its release in 1914. And there are two reasons for this - in addition to beautiful images of waterfalls on the reverse.

Rarest lot

The banknote was withdrawn from circulation and is one of a kind. In addition, her action was never suspended at the bank, despite the cessation of production. The banknote will be auctioned on August 1 for an incredible amount of 365 thousand Australian dollars.

A banknote is the rarest item put up for auction at Noble Numismatics in the State Library. It belongs to Ann Wilson, whose husband John was a collector-notafilist. His collection of coins was sold at auction in 2008 after his death, but the widow decided to give other collectors the opportunity to purchase rare banknotes.

John bought a 100-pound banknote at auction for 42 thousand Australian dollars in 1987, buying it from another collector.

Star collection

The owner of the auction house, Gene Noble, said that this banknote was the only example he knew of money that went out of circulation and did not lose its value.

"A unique banknote was found in the attic of a house in Tasmania. The family to which it belonged put it in a small cache along with several 20-dollar bills, which were a fortune for 1914. Today the family decided to sell all the banknotes - in total they are estimated $ 1.25 million, but I consider this banknote to be the star of the collection, "Noble said.

Anne Wilson said that the value of banknotes has fallen several times since her husband was alive. "We are pleased with the evaluation. We are happy that John has assembled such a collection. I will be sad to watch the auction, but to some extent it will be a relief for me," Anne admitted.
