A pregnant woman was fired for "gross violations" at work. She decided to sue the boss

The future mother from Britain sued the boss for the illegal dismissal from work. According to her, the boss made such a decision when a woman told him that she was pregnant. She also admitted that she was afraid for the fate of her unborn child, because once she had a miscarriage.

You're fired!

27-year-old Amy Sanderson from Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, told boss Steve Brennan that she was expecting a baby in July 2017. She was shocked when he sarcastically replied: “Great news, isn’t it?” And the following months, a pregnant woman working in the field of digital marketing was invited to meetings dedicated to her occupation, and ultimately was fired for “gross violations” in December 2017

Convinced that this was due to pregnancy, Amy went to court. However, earlier the girl suffered a miscarriage, so she was afraid that stress could destroy this child.

Fortunately, the court took Amy's side and soon decided to pay her compensation in the amount of 25,131 pounds (about 2 million rubles).

Difficult test

This situation affected Amy, her 34-year-old husband Dean, family and friends.

“I have never experienced such stress or anxiety,” she admitted. - I could not even think that experiences can affect a person in this way. Becoming a mother for the first time is already tiring and difficult for an emotional and mental state. The dismissal generally baffled me. After telling the boss about my pregnancy, I struggled with depression for two years. I had a miscarriage before I became pregnant with Charlie, and the company knew about it. I was very tired and scared that the stress of dismissal could lead to a miscarriage again. I took the help of doctors who also worried about my health. When I became a mother, I was sometimes nervous too. Surely my son felt this from time to time. But he brings us so much happiness that Steve Brennan and his company can never ruin it. ”

The boss is negative

When Amy told Mr. Brennan that she was expecting a baby, he warned her: “We have too many employees and not enough work. Do you know what this means? ”The girl said that before the dismissal, the CEO, with whom she had always had good relations, often made dismissive comments that resemble hidden threats.

“His reaction was shocking. It surprised me, ”the girl said, adding that everyone in the office knew about her miscarriage.

The Director General outlined all of his allegations to Amy in a letter. He indicated that she was not fulfilling the work promised to the customers, which was why business relations with them worsened. The court, however, suspected that in this way Steve Brennan wanted to make excuses for the illegal dismissal of an employee.

There are no easy ways

“I was upset and angry,” said Amy. “I went through a lot in court.” I was told that I won the hearing, but this process has already put me and my family into emotional stress. I already went through this before, and going through it again was terrible. I just fought again and again for my rights. Of course, my son was a priority, so I tried not to be stressed and take care of my child. This was probably the most difficult. I felt guilty. "

Amy received her compensation awarded by the court this week.

“I am pleased with this,” the girl admitted. - Of course, money is good, but for me the most important thing is to finish the job, regardless of the result. People need to know what kind of company it is and who manages it. ”

According to the young mother, the last two years have been very difficult for her and her family both emotionally and financially.

“It had a big impact on our family,” Amy said. - My husband and I often argued about this. When we gathered at the dinner table, we always discussed the topic of where and how to raise money. I was evil and much more upset than it seemed. Dean had to work hard to support his family. Without my husband, family and friends, I would not have been able to. "

Amy is still in search of work, but with this she has a hard time, because at every interview a sore topic of discord with a past employer is raised.

“It's over, and I feel much more confident,” she admits. “My past boss didn't even apologize to me in court, although he had a chance.” We must be prepared for difficult times if we are trying to defend the truth. "It took me by surprise, but I'm glad I fought to the end."
