What to do if you come up with a winning idea for your company, and honors flow to everyone except you

You came up with a brilliant idea for your company, and honors go to everyone except you. Unfortunately, such situations occur all the time. But what then to do? How can justice be restored?

Desire to stand out

Many people at work, despite their merits, exist as if outside the company, they are not considered team players, and they do not receive the recognition that they truly deserve. We live in a time when business focuses on cooperation and teamwork, and this is very good, but quite often it happens that all the honors go not to whoever should have received them.

Gaining trust from superiors is an important part for growing and climbing the corporate ladder. But in the event that a person is constantly seeking recognition, he may face unpleasant consequences and ultimately the authorities will be ungrateful.

Your boss

The best bosses are those who say: “My team did this” or “Someone from my department came up with this wonderful idea and we won with it,” says Amy Cooper Hakim, an organizational psychologist. She is confident that by putting her subordinates on the stage of recognition, a true leader allows them to rise and develop. In real life, unfortunately, this does not always happen.

What to do so that your honors do not go to another person?

If your boss often assigns your success to yourself, create paper proof that the idea originally came from you. This is similar to copyright, so compiling such a supporting document will be very helpful.

But proceed with caution. Additionally send your idea by e-mail to a higher manual, you can also record your discussion on the recorder, at which the proposal will be voiced for the first time. Make it clear that you are looking forward and are doing your best to develop the company so that the authorities see your interest and efforts. When approaching your immediate boss, avoid confrontation and showdown, and also focus his attention on the fact that it is important for you that your idea goes for the good of the whole team.

It always makes sense for any boss to take the initiative when it comes to presenting a project or idea to higher layers of the company. But this is better not to be allowed, and then you will be able to quickly move up the career ladder, and not instead feed freebie ideas to someone who has already achieved something. Thus, if you are a born careerist, then you should not step aside and allow the other person to take the initiative.

Communication with colleagues

You have more opportunities to make yourself known if you don’t wasted reporting unnecessary information to your work friends who can switch all honors to themselves. So it's best to avoid sharing ideas in a private setting.

If you are working with a colleague who has been repeatedly convicted of stealing ideas or causes little trust, establish some basic rules in cooperation with him. Try telling him something like: "I am happy to help you with this, but I would like to personally introduce the project." That is, continue with him to carry out his daily tasks, but try to make sure that he does not sniff out your plan and does not offer his leadership first.

Presentation

If you are sitting at a presentation that you worked on and don’t feel the confidence you have in your work, leave a message at the end that you hope everyone enjoyed your presentation and you were pleased to work with the team.

At the same time, one should not constantly say: “I did it all.” As a rule, prosperous and successful companies are looking for people who can communicate and collaborate with other colleagues, while maintaining a positive atmosphere in the team and a happy mood. Therefore, when proposing an idea at a presentation, make it clear that it is exclusively yours, but do not forget about the help of colleagues with whom you work in one bridle. You can also talk about solving various issues that arise to show your knowledge and interest in the success of the company.

Business is a team sport

It is worth noting that this statement should never be forgotten. Sometimes two people have the same idea, and sometimes they come to it after a joint brainstorming session. Therefore, often suggesting your developments, do not forget to pay tribute to colleagues as well. Against the background of this approach, the company will most likely repeatedly reward you with promotion, some kind of bonus or a large project. If there is no recognition for a long time, the main thing is not to give up and do your best to show how useful you are for your company.

Among other things, successful careerists often demonstrate recognition of the ideas, work results and contributions of others, supporting them in all matters. Therefore, it is very important to recognize the contribution of colleagues. If you often pay tribute to other people, and then declare yourself, this will be the most balanced technique in the framework of your career advancement.
