Money in a closet: an unopened Nintendo 1988 video game could bring the owner $ 10,000

Unopened 31 years ago, a gift can bring a fortunate one a lot of money - about 10 thousand dollars.

On Mother's Day, Scott Amos discovered a sealed Nintendo Kid Icarus cartridge in the attic of his home in Reno. He found him when his mother asked him to collect some boxes of children's things.

Among the items he discovered was a game released in 1987. The receipt for the cartridge indicated that it was purchased on December 8, 1988 as a Christmas present.

“Everyone in the family tried to explain the origin of the find,” Amos said. “My mother thinks she hid the gift and never got it again, and then he was in the attic.”

An undisclosed copy of the cult classic video game Kid Icarus of 1987 cost $ 38.45.

Surprise game

Amos did not think the cartridge would cost that much, so he left it on the kitchen counter.

“It was pretty funny. I saw that the cartridge was sealed, and thought it cost a couple of hundred, ”he recalls. “The next day I went to work and emailed a couple of requests to experts. One of them answered after 30 minutes, saying that this is a game with a surprise. "

Amos immediately called his wife to put the treasure in a safe place away from their little daughters, and then put up a cartridge for sale, where, as expected, they would give $ 10,000 for it.

“I did not want the children to print or color it,” Amos joked.

According to Heritage Auctions, collectors have less than 10 factory sealed copies. “Kid Icarus is one of Nintendo’s most complex games that has been sealed,” said the director of the auction’s video game department.

The game is based on Greek mythology, in which the hero Pete fights with an evil jellyfish captivating the goddess of light Paluten.
