Freelance friend shared his secrets of self-organization

How often you can hear: "I want to be a freelancer, to work for myself." Indeed, this is an opportunity to become your own boss, manage your time and decide when to relax and when to work. In the end, brave people start freelance. But immediately the problems begin, for some reason I want to sleep longer, some urgent things appear that do not give the opportunity to do work. These are not all the problems that a freelancer faces.

Self-stimulation

Alas, effective work requires incentives. If you work in the office or at the factory (it doesn’t matter at all), then there is always a goal - to get wages. Perhaps bonuses or other bonus, compensation payments depend on diligence.

A freelancer will have to find more incentives, the payment for the work done cannot serve as one motivating factor. This is called self-government. For example, you can set yourself a specific schedule: you work from 8:00 to 16:00, and after that you can go to the gym or take a walk with friends.

Prioritization

Decide for yourself what time of day you are better at working. If this is morning, then push aside all important matters and work in the morning, if it is evening, then carry out orders at this time.

If you do not live on your own, then explain to your close people that at certain times of the day it is better not to disturb you - you will work. Do not look into emails and social networks, do not get distracted by all kinds of little things, when you have a peak of activity - work.

Communicate with yourself

No matter how absurd it sounds, engage in dialogue with yourself. This does not mean that you need to sit at the mirror and speak in different voices. Just think about how freelance suits you, what reviews about your work, how you see yourself in the future, what your immediate plans are.

Such an internal dialogue will provide an opportunity to understand where you are moving and whether this is the right direction. It may be necessary to make some adjustments to far-reaching plans. By the way, this technique helps any person, regardless of type of activity.

Have a rest

Any activity should have a break for rest. This also applies to freelance. Even in the office they provide a lunch break, when the employee can leave the room and sit over a cup of coffee, forget at least for a short time about work. Do the same for you. Have a weekend and vacation.

The advantage of freelance is that you can even provide micro-outputs to yourself at the time you want it and when it is really needed. Office work has no such advantage - weekends and vacations on a clear schedule, as well as a break at a certain time.

Ambition is not a vice

Most people are structured in such a way that if they set ambitious goals, they practically “break into a cake” to achieve them. A freelancer must also set goals. Yes, they should be ambitious, but quite achievable.

Remember that in most cases a person is able not only to achieve the highest goal, but also to do a little more.

I would like to share my own experience. Indeed, all of the above statements are true. It's pretty hard to be the boss over yourself I myself often struggle with laziness, plan, and then break. After all, I understand that I do not have a boss, so I do not need to report to anyone. But I always remember that the customer is a partner to whom I have obligations, so I never violate the deadlines. From my office experience, I want to say that wages are really the main stimulating factor, but the manager who decided when to go on vacation or for lunch was planning my own day. Whether it’s right or wrong, I don’t know, but I like freelance more than work in the office.
