Emotions Shouldn't Run a Business: 4 Stress Management Tips for Entrepreneurs

The Canadian Mental Health Association, in a recent study, examined the mental health and well-being of entrepreneurs by interviewing 476 business owners across Canada and conducting in-depth interviews with 20 of these entrepreneurs. Not surprisingly, entrepreneurs often faced mental health problems. Half of the entrepreneurs surveyed were in a bad mood or felt mentally tired. Three out of five said they often get depressed, according to statistics, once a week.

Entrepreneurial stress not only affects the work of the entrepreneur, but also extends to his personal and professional relationships. The study found that three out of five entrepreneurs have difficulty maintaining a balance between work and personal life due to entrepreneurial stress.

Some groups of entrepreneurs are more likely to experience mental health problems than others. These are entrepreneurs whose business is in an early stage of development. They are more likely to report signs of stress, unlike those who own a mature business. Since entrepreneurs face so much stress, it’s just necessary to take measures to deal with it. If you are an entrepreneur, we suggest trying these four ways to manage stress.

1. Remind yourself that you are not alone

Entrepreneurs are often alone when they begin to grow a business. Even if they have a loving spouse and understanding friends. The fact of opening and running a business will be their personal affair. Even if you have opened a business without a partner, you should not cope with stress alone. Use entrepreneurial organizations in the city to be close to other entrepreneurs. Talking with like-minded people, with those who share your struggle, is a reliable way to feel that you are not alone.

2. Remember to control the stress hormone

Try to be objective and monitor your condition to take a break if necessary and even get professional help from a psychologist. Also periodically check the level of the stress hormone to make sure it is not too high. Tests for stress hormone levels are performed once a quarter. Perform a test regularly to make sure cortisol (a stress hormone) is not too high.

3. Need to get enough sleep

If you go to bed early and sleep from 6.5 to 7 hours a day (plus avoid drinking alcohol a couple of hours before you fall asleep), this can help reduce stress. Providing yourself daily rest and waking up with a clear head, you will be ready to solve upcoming problems. If you have trouble sleeping, see your doctor to get a good night's sleep.

4. Hire the right people

The first thing you need to do to reduce stress is to work in a positive environment with nice people. The main mistake that young entrepreneurs often make is that they assume too many responsibilities in business. Hurry and hiring people who are unpleasant in communication are the main mistake. Take time to find the right people, especially the first deputy. This will facilitate your schedule and make your working day more enjoyable.
