The greed of people never ceases to amaze. Another manifestation of it was the story that happened about six years ago in the small Chinese village of Guanghu in the province of Guangdong. Here, for several years, luxurious villas built for the poor by their rich villager have been empty.
Good wizard
The owner of the large Chinese company Tiandi No 1 Beverage Inc, which produces soft drinks, billionaire Chen Shen grew up in a poor family in a small Chinese village. Knowing the conditions in which his former villagers lived, and also remembering his difficult childhood, the philanthropist decided to give the villagers a truly royal gift.
The businessman allocated two hundred million yuan (about 32 million dollars) for the construction of a cottage town. 258 real villas have been built. In addition, the surrounding area was landscaped, a number of sports facilities were built - a basketball and football court, a tennis court. A stage was built for the performance of visiting artists, holding holidays.
The cottages themselves were three-story houses with a total area of 280 m2. They had five bedrooms, two living rooms, a dining room and a kitchen, bathrooms and a large hall, garage. There is a small garden in front of the house.
In addition, the philanthropist planned to build a number of small agricultural enterprises in the village in order to provide people with jobs and a decent life. His company was ready to buy all the products received by residents.
Angry villagers
The construction was completed quite quickly, and residents seemed to be happy to move in, if not for one thing ... The billionaire built 68 cottages more than necessary for those who wish to move to the village. This decision was a big mistake. However, this caused discontent among residents.
One cottage was not enough for them, they complained that they had large families. They began to demand at home and for their children, who would have to acquire their families in the future. Once upon a time, those who had left the village began hastily returning to claim their cottage. According to Shen, he was based on statistics from 2013, for which there were only 190 households in the village.
Sad patron
Residents of the village began to make complaints first to each other, and then to Chen Shen. This greatly offended him. The construction was suspended. Cottages are still empty. Luxurious villa has become an object for looting.
The billionaire himself decided not to appear in the village anymore. According to Chen Shen, he was so disappointed with the behavior of his fellow villagers that he had not visited the village for more than two years, so the patron’s noble intentions turned into deep disappointment for him. Like in that fairy tale: greed led to people being left with nothing.
And there are many such cases. A similar situation occurred with the famous actor Brad Pitt. After the terrible hurricane Katrina that hit the city of New Orleans, the actor decided to build houses for the victims. However, instead of gratitude, he received lawsuits from residents of the city, dissatisfied with the quality of the houses built.
