Who is responsible for burnout in the workplace - employee or employer?

Unfortunately, burnout is a frequent companion of modern people who spend a lot of effort and time on work. Not every employer can understand what problems his employees face. For example, young managers do not face family problems and do not understand why employees may look tired even after the weekend.

A boss who never seems tense

We are all human, but we do not respond to the same questions in the same way. Perhaps among your acquaintances there are even people who seemingly move through life without experiencing significant stress.

Perhaps your boss belongs to this category of people. Lacking developed empathy, he may not understand that the chronic stress experienced by his employees worsens the quality of their work and everyday life.

Regardless of whether the manager is experiencing stress himself, he is obligated to actively monitor employees to see if the burden of responsibility becomes too great. If signs appear that indicate this, it is time to take the first step, namely to discuss this issue with employees.

The Labor Code of the Russian Federation states that each employer must provide employees with conditions that comply with labor protection requirements. By the way, people who work with computer equipment are most susceptible to stress.

What does the employer control?

An employer controls many things that can cause stress, such as company culture, payroll policies, or the physical environment.

The most important issues in this regard are equality, honesty and a sense of justice. Equality should be understood in a broad sense, including gender and pay equity, equal career opportunities and wage increases, as well as an equitable distribution of tasks and responsibilities. This eliminates a large number of causes that can trigger stress.

The employer is also required to ensure a fair balance between job description, employee skills and competencies, and personal goals.

Without a doubt, providing a safe and suitable physical environment to carry out the required work is the responsibility of the employer.

Work tension

There is such a thing as "work stress." This is a characteristic that reflects the load on the nervous system and the emotional sphere.

The intensity of labor at the workplace is created by intellectual stress, uniformity of the work performed, as well as the established mode of operation.

This is why it is important to provide an environment devoid of distractions if employees have to do work requiring increased concentration.

The company's culture, working methods and organizational structure are determined and controlled by the employer, which has a great impact on the well-being of employees.

In addition, the employer is responsible for the continuous monitoring of the working atmosphere among employees.

The employer bears great responsibility for his employees. However, not all factors associated with well-being can be expressed in the form of clearly established rules. The boss just needs to be on the alert.

common goal

Despite the fact that the employer is obliged to monitor working conditions, not all conscientiously fulfill this obligation. In addition, all people are different. Working under the same conditions, some may experience burnout, while others may feel great.

That is why the employer and his employees must join in one team to prevent chronic stress and, as a result, burnout in the workplace.

A single burnout is a serious symptom and requires immediate action. A company's reputation can be seriously affected by the fact that its employees publicly declare their stress and lack of well-being.

Each employee is also responsible for himself and his own well-being. No matter how good the employer is, he cannot optimize working conditions for everyone, not to mention their life outside of work.

Both employees and companies have a common goal of maintaining health, achieving a positive attitude and increasing productivity. Employees with a healthy balance of work and personal life help companies and organizations flourish. A happy and healthy employee spreads a positive attitude around him.
