Fraudulent apps on Apple devices that force you to make in-game purchases: how to detect them

All smartphone users, as a rule, often turn to a wide variety of applications, including dubious ones, that can be found on the Google Play Stor, but there are also some iOS applications that try to attract the attention of unsuspecting Apple customers. In this case, they try to trick users using expensive, and in some cases hidden transactions inside the application. How can you find fraudulent applications that force their users to make expensive purchases?

Fraudulent trick

One such application is the notorious iOS heart rate monitoring app, which has appeared on the App Store. It appeared only eight months after it was banned due to user complaints about cases of fraud and extorting them with hard-earned money. The application claims that it uses a Touch ID scanner for fingerprints, which is available on some iOS devices. Using this scanner, the user's pulse is supposedly being tracked. In fact, it forces you to shop for $ 89, using your fingerprint to complete the transaction in the background.

9to5Mac announced the return of the application to the App Store, which also notes that a recent report from Apps Exposed mentions more than 500 other apps in the App Store that also use similar scam tactics.

Dangerous Application Detection

It is not surprising that many of them are gathered around adult video content, especially in peer-to-peer networks, there is free pornography and random sex. What is surprising, however, is the fact that many applications manage to circumvent Apple’s relatively strict policies and artificially overestimate app ratings in five-star reviews, which makes it difficult to identify them in a quick look. However, if you look carefully enough and browse through the reviews, you will find many reviews about these applications as fraudulent.

How to avoid danger

For security reasons, do not download applications that appear in the list of similar, already identified applications. If you already have these, delete them immediately, review and check any dubious transaction history. Some of these applications over the past year, hundreds of thousands of users have been able to fool.

Remember to carefully check applications and user reviews. Take a few extra minutes to check out apps you aren't familiar with by doing a quick Google search before installing them, especially if they claim to send you free images or offer you real connections or private video chats.

However, many fraudulent applications are not based on adult content; There are many other categories, such as photo / video filters, quizzes and games, health and lifestyle apps, and backgrounds or user interface themes. Therefore, all unfamiliar applications should be approached with caution. If in doubt, do not download them to your device and do not confirm any purchases in the application.
