“Buying gifts for teachers is too expensive”: revelations of a mother with many children

The mother of four children talked about the gifts that parents give teachers, and expressed the opinion that this process was out of control. Not everyone can like her point of view, but there is no doubt that this topic is relevant on the eve of Knowledge Day in September and the following Teacher's Day.

Peta Todd on a variety of gifts

Peta Todd is a model who is married to professional British cyclist Mark Cavendish. The couple has four children. They are familiar with all the difficulties that parents face in the process of raising children of different ages.

In her weekly column, Peta expressed her attitude to the gifts that parents of schoolchildren give to teachers. Next - reasoning on her behalf.

A story of a mother of many children

Some gifts parents bought for teachers were better than wedding gifts. Large baskets, flowers, certificates and cakes, made to order. I am sure that if I had to work with classes of other people's children, I would like to receive all the gifts in the world, but most teachers really want this?

Do not get me wrong, when only one of my children studied at school, I was ready to choose various gifts for his teachers. But now, when my other children have grown up, I have less and less time and money left for this. Meanwhile, other parents seem to have been actively involved in this process.

Process got out of hand

Now that I have less free time, I do not have time to choose gifts and do everything at the last minute. Fortunately, one of the mothers in my seven-year-old daughter's class is involved in organizational matters. We give her the money, and she chooses and buys gifts. This is convenient for me, and I agree with such an organization of the process.

But I have a four-year-old son, whose gifts for teachers I have to choose myself. I buy flowers, cards and other little things. But it seems to me that the situation with gifts has got out of hand. We give gifts to teachers, educators, their assistants. When will we stop? Maybe I just envy that no one leaves me drowning in flowers, chocolate and bottles of wine by the end of the school year.

Instead of a conclusion

The question that Peta Todd raised in her column is especially relevant on the eve of Knowledge Day. It remains a little more than a month before the day when millions of Russian schoolchildren will return to their desks and continue to master the curriculum. In the meantime, children enjoy a well-deserved vacation, parents are preparing for the start of the school year.

The budget of families is limited, but you need to purchase school supplies, uniforms and not forget about gifts for teachers. Traditionally, in Russia it is customary to give flowers to teachers on September 1, but some students present gifts from themselves to thank the teacher for his work.

After the Knowledge Day, a whole series of holidays will begin: Teacher's Day, New Year's Day, February 23, March 8 and the last bell. In Russian schools, the parent committee usually buys gifts, but what if children from families with different incomes study in the classroom? This is one of the problems parents have to face on the eve of the holidays. The issue of gifts for teachers remains open.
