The servants of Buckingham Palace talked about how he worked for Queen Elizabeth II

The representative of one of the British recruitment agencies talked with two footmen, who once worked in Buckingham Palace, serving Queen Elizabeth II and her husband the Duke of Edinburgh. For privacy reasons, their names are changed. That's what conditional Thomas and Peter told about.

Either a tunic or pink leggings

Thomas noted that working at Buckingham Palace as a footman is very diverse. For example, today at the reception you can be dressed in a semblance of a strict military uniform, and the next day you can put on pink or white leggings to accompany the Queen’s golden carriage. In this case, you will have to wear an incredibly heavy old outfit, and crowds of people will stare at you.

As for the work schedule of the maid, he is also very flexible. There are ordinary work shifts, but there is very little work, having done which, you can rest all day and use the bar for staff located in the palace.

The queen is very friendly

Thomas also talked about how surprising was the feeling he experienced from personal contact with the queen. He was very flattered that he could be in such close proximity to royal monarchs.

Another royal footman, Peter, recalls that being near Elizabeth II, many people are nervous, but she, for her part, is always calm and friendly, attentive to the interlocutor, trying to make everyone feel at ease.

Living life

Peter noted that when people see the royal name on TV, they perceive its members to a greater extent as certain characters, and to a lesser extent, as living people with their own personal lives. Therefore, the first time he worked in the palace, it was amazing for him to observe the intimate life of the family.

For example, when preparations were made for Christmas, gifts were printed, everyone had a lot of fun. It turned out that Prince Harry’s toy doesn’t have a battery, and Peter took it out of his alarm clock.

Fancy Travel

Thomas speaks of the service at Buckingham Palace as a memorable experience, full of vivid impressions. He recalls with particular pleasure when, together with the entire team of staff serving the royal couple, during the celebration of the golden anniversary of the monarchine - the 50th anniversary of her reign - he managed to visit Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica.

Meet extraordinary personalities

Peter says that employees have the opportunity to meet many famous people in the palace every day. He recalls that he was pleased to serve the Finnish president during dinner, as well as to take care of Nelson Mandela when he was in the Belgian suite. According to Peter, Mr. Mandela was a very, kind, charming and polite person.

Thomas said that once he happened to see the Dalai Lama during dinner, when many of the religious leaders of the planet were present at the table. He admits that he thought then that the result of their negotiations could be the end of all wars on earth.

At the end of the conversation with two former employees of Buckingham Palace to the question of how he feels, remembering the time spent there, Thomas replied that this is a feeling of pride and awareness of involvement in something eternal.
