A family of 6 sold a large house to live on a bus. And they are happy

Family life often turns out to be different from what we imagine: everyday difficulties begin, there is a need to pay bills for housing maintenance, because of constant work, family members practically do not see each other and rarely go out somewhere to travel. However, not everyone is ready to spend this whole life.

Sudden decision

The young family of Debbie and Gabriel Mayes from Wigan, UK, are tired of their five thousand square foot home.

They understood that something urgently needed to be changed. They came up with a brilliant idea: to repair and re-equip an American school bus in order to later live in it and travel "without leaving home."

From home to earth to motor home

The future mobile home cost the family £ 27,000. Within six months, young people were engaged in its arrangement and repair.

They removed the upholstery from the seats, repainted the bus white inside, added a cozy kitchen, living room, bedrooms and even a functioning bathroom.

Being inside, it’s hard to believe that once it was an ordinary vehicle!

The birth of an idea

When asked how they came to such an extraordinary decision, Gabriel and Debbie explain that they had to work hard to pay the bills that came home every month. So they practically did not see their four children and each other, and this depressed them. At one point, the couple realized that it was time to change something in this life. Mayes felt that it was necessary to somehow unite the family in order to live a happy life. Once they came across a video about people who live in repaired buses, and realized that this is exactly what they need.

Almost immediately, they set about fulfilling their dreams.

Interestingly, despite the small area of their new home (just 250 square feet, 23 m2), the family is happy.

At the moment, they have already covered three thousand miles (4828 km) in their "home": they passed through Colorado, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Utah and Nevada. Mayes plans to get to Northern California and settle there permanently.

In his Instagram, Debbie talks about what is happening in their lives.

She says that she often receives emails from different people that say how unhappy they are. The girl is sure that for happiness you just need to change something in your life, as they did with her husband. “If you are unhappy with the place you are in, you just need to decide to change everything. And then you will feel that you are free, that you live the life for which you exist in this world,” the happy family advises.

Well, if they are happy, why not? But I would not sell the house. Circumstances may change.
