Short description

Charleston, South Carolina, houses a beautiful 17,000-square-foot mansion with a beautiful antique design.

The estate was bought by Jackie Kennedy for $ 1 million in 1979. The house known as the House of the Gate of the Sword is over 200 years old, and it belonged to one of the granddaughters of Abraham Lincoln.

According to publicly available data, the house has been up for sale for the past ten years. Last time in 2016, it was revalued at $ 19.5 million. Over the past three years, he has received three more price cuts and is now selling for $ 14.9 million.

What's inside?

The house is decorated with many different paintings, white columns and rare furniture give it the charm of a real museum. Of course, not everyone will like to live in such a house, but for a true connoisseur this is a dream home.

Here is a photo of the same part of the house, only from a different angle. Here you can see a stylish staircase of irregular shape. It is decorated with expensive carpets and made of wood. Now it’s really hard to find houses that were built from natural materials.

Original style

As for the name of the estate, Sword Gate House, inspiration was drawn from the sturdy wrought-iron gates at the entrance. The gate was originally designed by Charles Reichardt, a German architect, and manufactured by Charleston steelworker Christopher Werner in 1838. Beyond the gates and brick walls that enclose the entire property, there is a garage.

The current owner of the estate acquired it 20 years ago in 1999. Immediately after the acquisition, the estate was renovated, thanks to large investments and craftsmanship, the interior was completely preserved without losing style. But this property has been for sale for many years. At the same time, the price of it is constantly decreasing.

The house has a large number of wooden fireplaces. All chandeliers were purchased in the last century and are quite expensive. The walls of the dining room were hand-painted.

The new owner of the house will be able to enter the well-kept terrace, where there are several comfortable armchairs and a table.

One of the nine bedrooms of the estate is decorated with expensive royal furniture. It is made in a pleasant green color, the patterns on the walls resemble trees and other plants, the bathroom, which is located next to the "green" bedroom, has exactly the same color scheme.

The remaining bedrooms have a different design. At the very top, near the attic, there is another bedroom, it has pleasant light and pink tones inherent in the best French houses. The third bedroom is decorated in blue colors.

The master bathroom has a pristine freestanding bathtub that was added during the restoration of the house.

The only modern place is the kitchen, it was significantly redone during the renovation in 2000.
