Possible mistakes in the preparation of resumes that complicate the job search

When was the last time you reviewed your resume? Today, the rules for its design have become completely different than they were just a couple of years ago. Thus, before sending your resume to potential employers, check your document for the most common mistakes and make the necessary changes to it, which will increase your chances of finding a job.

Mistake 1: Incorrect design

To give your resume a modern look, work on its design. Instead of using Times New Roman, choose a modern font such as Calibri, Cambria, Palatino or Verdana.

When filling out, use numbered and bulleted lists and highlight the main parts of the resume with subtitles.

Mistake 2: You list all your previous jobs

Your resume is a way to “sell” yourself to your employers, not your full bio. Therefore, the mention of all jobs can make the resume only more voluminous.

Experts advise to indicate their jobs over the past 10-15 years, whose experience can be useful in a new position.

Mistake 3: You indicate irrelevant skills

Information that you know how to work in a program on a computer that is no longer in use should be omitted, the same applies to skills such as “leadership skills” or “problem solving ability”. Employers themselves will be able to figure this out by looking at your past work experience.

Error 4: Your email address is incorrect

Even an email address can have an effect on your employment process. Create a new mailbox, the name of which will indicate your name and surname, and not different funny words.

Mistake 5: You do not simplify the work of hiring managers

In order to facilitate the work of your potential employer and to simplify the process of communication with you, include in your resume links to your profile on the social networks that you use for work (do not specify information about personal pages).

Also include links to your portfolio. This will save the potential employer from having to search you on the Internet and ask you additional questions.

Mistake 6: You highlight a career goal

Instead of focusing on what you want to get from work, focus on the needs of your potential employer. Briefly explain (approximately 50 words) which skills and experience that you possess are valuable to the company.
