"I felt like a doll in a shop window": experience as a flight attendant in the UAE airline

The stewardess profession seems to be shrouded in romance. Traveling at an altitude of several thousand kilometers, the opportunity to visit many countries of the world, chat with people of different cultures. However, everything is not as simple as it seems at first glance. The former flight attendant, who worked at one of the UAE airlines, shared her experience and impressions of her difficult, but such an interesting job.

Dream job

Our heroine was born and raised in New York. Not to say that she dreamed of becoming a flight attendant - she was simply attracted by the opportunity to see the world. Somehow I didn’t really want to live all my life in one city and not go to other countries. That is why the profession of a flight attendant seemed to her an ideal option: you travel, and you also get paid for it.

In general, our heroine sent her resume to one of the UAE airlines, went through several stages of the interview, and began to wait for a final decision from the employer on employment. There was no answer for a long time, so the applicant doubted that she would be hired. When she finally lost hope, the bell rang. She was waiting in Dubai!

The flight was certainly paid for by the employer. Excited, our heroine headed to the airport to get a special separate flight to the destination - the main office of the new employer for paperwork.

The most difficult at this stage was parting with family, friends, relatives. Tears welling up in her eyes, however, our heroine tried to restrain herself so as not to upset her loved ones. These were mixed feelings: on the one hand, the joy that the old dream of becoming a flight attendant would soon come true, and on the other, the sadness of having to leave the house. Here relatives came to the rescue, who encouraged our heroine and set her up in a positive way.

Training

Already on the plane, she met her future colleagues. The flight went unnoticed. And now our heroine has already crossed the threshold of a luxuriously furnished and renovated apartment in the center of Dubai. The accommodation was fully paid by the employer. However, our heroine did not even suspect that the apartments would be so luxurious, and even in such a place.

This was followed by a six-week training course. Flight attendants were taught everything: from basic safety measures to rules of conduct in extreme situations. It was a busy time: I had to learn and remember a huge amount of new information, pass tests and standards. Fortunately, our heroine managed to adequately complete the entire training course.

The long-awaited document

And now in the hands of the newly made stewardess was the first route sheet. There were indicated flights for the next six days. "Dubai-Melbourne-Auckland" - it was on paper. Our heroine was very glad that the first flight was in Australia. She had long dreamed of visiting this country, so her joy knew no bounds.

The night before the first flight in my life as a stewardess was not easy. The girl was very worried about the first working day in a new status, so she could not sleep. Hundreds of thoughts flashed through my head. She was embraced by mixed feelings of happiness and anxiety.

First work day

The flight was scheduled for ten in the morning. Our heroine got up at six so as not to be late in any way, not to forget anything and put herself in order. She carefully tied her hair into a bun, put on an elegant form, took a suitcase and left the house. A company car was waiting for her downstairs, which took her directly to the airport.

The remaining crew members were already waiting on the spot - only twenty people. The documents of our heroine were carefully checked by the senior crew member. After this came the most difficult moment - the security question. This form of testing is absolutely all flight attendants. A senior manager selectively asks about something that went through training courses. If the flight attendant gives the wrong answer, he is immediately removed from the flight and reported to the higher management. No one knows what kind of question a manager can ask this time. Fortunately, our heroine was lucky - she answered correctly and was allowed on board the plane. However, before this, the senior crew members examined her and assessed her appearance: so that her nails were covered with red or colorless varnish, so that the uniform sat on the figure, so that her hair did not stick out, etc. This seemed pretty humiliating to the girl. She felt like a doll in a shop window.

At nine in the morning, the airliner began to fill up with people. Our heroine with colleagues, as always, talked about safety rules, carried food. Further, it would seem, it would be possible to relax, but there it was: the call button did not stop. Passengers constantly needed something, so they had to spend all 13 hours of the flight on their feet. Upon arrival at the hotel, the girl, oddly enough, felt such a surge of energy that she also went for a walk around Melbourne.

Dismissal

Our heroine worked in such a frantic mode for several months, but then decided to quit. I’m just very tired and miss my relatives. However, after the rest, she admitted that she now misses her colleagues.
