Keep your palms open: what psychological tricks will help you get a job

The practice of traditional interviews with the submission of a resume when applying for a job, probably lives on in recent years. In any case, this applies to leading companies, which are increasingly aware of the imperfection of the traditional format of the interview and look to the future, where the method of assessing the qualities of the applicant with the help of artificial intelligence systems is increasingly visible.

But this does not mean at all that the usual conversation between the job seeker and the employer will be completely excluded. Both today and in the near future, it is important for a candidate for vacant positions to correctly use psychological techniques that increase the chances of finding a job even regardless of the level of professional abilities.

1. The right color of clothes

Even the color of the wardrobe can affect the success of employment - as a symbol of a particular personality characteristic. For example, blue is a sign that a person is ready to work in a team, and black will say about leadership qualities. White and red will make a favorable impression - respectively, indicating organization and internal strength. And orange should be discarded, as it is associated with unprofessionalism.

2. Interview time

If possible, it is better to study the schedule of the recruiter who will conduct the interview, and delicately adapt to it. The optimal time is between early morning and lunch - for example, 10:30. This time period has not yet led to the fatigue of company representatives, but has already enabled them to properly formulate the agenda and pay all attention to current affairs. As for the day of the week, Monday is likely to be very busy, and the middle and the end of the week is a time of fatigue and thoughts about the upcoming weekend. Tuesday will be the best choice.

3. Focus on the age of the recruiter

The representative of the personnel department is not a robot, but a living person, therefore during the conversation certain shades of statements can influence him in different ways. In particular, these shades can be selected in accordance with the age category of the recruiter. So, a generation of 20-30 years old is more likely to perceive positive statements about new trends, the introduction of innovative methods and the importance of creative thinking. For people 40-50 years old, it may be worth emphasizing the need to preserve the company's traditions, its regulations and personal readiness to accept the values of the team that have been developed over the years.

4. Sign Language

The main attention will be paid to the hands of the applicant. Any gestures that betray uncertainty and secrecy should be minimized. It is advisable to hold hands with open palms and fingers slightly touching each other. This gesture will tell about the openness of a person and his willingness to cooperate.

5. "The effect of the chameleon"

Another sign tactic of sign language. The rule is quite simple - it is necessary to reflect the actions and manners of the interlocutor, but so that it is not striking. Thus, a certain organicness of the interview is achieved in which both participants complement each other. A positive sense of psychological balance and mutual understanding is created.

6. Demonstration of confidence and restraint

A rather difficult task, but much can depend on the quality of its implementation. Confidence in itself speaks of the value of the employee as a potential leader, able to fuel the team and lead the project, despite all the difficulties. As for restraint, it will indicate that the employee understands his place in the team, which will not allow him to put his interests above common tasks.

7. Moderate smile

The cult of a smile in the business environment is gradually becoming obsolete. It is becoming increasingly apparent that most often this gesture of friendliness is, at best, a tribute to ethical rules, and at worst, an attempt at manipulation. Therefore, at least, the interlocutor should not smile specially and emphasized. But sitting with a sullen and especially frowning face is also not necessary. Emotions can be lively, but sustained in a natural way. Of course, if a joke sounds and the recruiter himself expresses a loud laugh, then you don’t need to restrain yourself. The main thing is not to seem artificial and pretended.

8. Expressiveness of statements

This is not about artistic techniques, but about technical voice control, which will correctly focus on important points. In principle, not monotonous, but enriched speech in itself increases the listener's interest and makes one pay more attention to the information presented.

9. Fighting Fear

The atmosphere of the interview can distort the behavior of any person, if much depends on the final decision. So, an extrovert by nature can go into itself and become isolated, gradually squeezing out answers that it pronounced clearly and clearly outside the office. In the case of the introvert, the behavior can also be reversed when there are bursts of emotions with which the applicant wants to demonstrate his pressure and self-confidence. Therefore, the preparatory stage with setting yourself up to a negative scenario is so important.

10. Eye contact

Looking directly into the interlocutor’s eyes means not only showing respect to him and showing his confidence, but also appear smarter. This is evidenced by numerous studies. Indeed, a person who looks into the eyes during a conversation seems smarter than someone who constantly looks away or looks down. Another thing is that a direct look should not be “boring” and inseparable, otherwise the recruiter will feel awkward.
