Calculation of fuel and long-distance travel

Going on a long trip, it will always be interesting to know how much the budget of this trip will be. And most importantly, how much time will have to be spent in it, how much fuel will be needed and how much money will be spent on it. In our article, we will clearly explain how to quickly and easily calculate the fuel and the distance of a planned trip.

Special Sites

Nowadays, information on the range and amount of diesel fuel or gasoline can be obtained by going to special sites.

Distance between cities

After entering city names in certain fields of the calculator, the data will immediately appear in front of you on the screen of a computer monitor or gadget.

Among other things, the distance from place to place can be found on the Google Planet Earth service. The site interface is very convenient. Anyone can guess how and what needs to be manipulated there. Put the markers of the starting point and the end point, and the machine will calculate how many kilometers you have to travel.

Plus, here you can find out about the shortest paths and calculate the best option for the path based on which transport you will travel by car, bicycle or walk. Often along the path indicated for the bike, you can ride a motorcycle, ATV or SUV, thereby cutting a tangible angle. There you can also inquire about the relief of the path you have laid, because, for example, when driving in mountainous terrain, fuel is consumed almost one and a half times more than on the plain.

We calculate the distance on the map

But if for some reason you do not want to use gadgets and special applications for calculating fuel and distance, you can do without them. Only a map with the scale indicated on it will still be needed. We also need a ruler. When all this at your fingertips, you can begin to measure.

Typically, the map scale indicates how many meters of real distance a 1 cm map can hold. We give an example. The scale of our map is 100 km per 1 cm. If the distance from a city to a city measured by a ruler on such a map is 8 cm, we multiply these 8 by the number of kilometers per 1 cm (in our case, 100) and we get 800 km.

It should be noted that in this case, the calculation of distance and fuel will be approximate and very minimal, since the property of any road is looping. And therefore, a quarter or even a third will have to be thrown from above, depending on the degree of "curvature" of this road. The calculation of fuel and distance will be more accurate only when you know the real distance from place to place. For example, we already went there and calculated the distance by kilometer posts.

We calculate the amount of fuel

When you know the distance from point to point, you can proceed to the calculation of fuel consumption by distance. To do this, we need to know how much approximately our car “eats” fuel, driving 100 km of track, that is, correctly expressed, fuel consumption. Suppose you know this figure, and it is equal to 10 liters. Based on this, it turns out that since we have a distance of 800 km, then we multiply 10 by 8. It turns out that in a 800-kilometer trip, our car will gobble up 80 liters.

Here, too, is not without nuances. As with distance, the calculation of fuel and, consequently, the budget will be approximate, because over time the car begins to “eat” fuel much more than it says in the documents.

We calculate the full trip budget

If the road is normal, and the average speed on the way will be 100 km / h, then you will cover the distance of 800 km in 800 divided by 100 = 8 hours. On the way, you can stop for a couple of snacks. If you don’t take your products on the road, good food in roadside cafes will cost you (on average) 1000 rubles (depending on the menu, region and distance from the center, the value can change both in the plus and minus direction).

Now we take the calculation of fuel by the distance between cities, which we did above. It is already known that for the trip we will have to buy 80 liters of gasoline. Let's say you have a 92nd liter in the region costs 40 rubles. We count. 80 liters to multiply by 40 rubles. it will turn out 3200. That is how many rubles we will spend on gasoline.

Total: gasoline plus food, that is 3200 + 1000 = 4200 rubles, it will take us on a trip.

Conclusion

Going on a trip

Of course, calculating the distance between cities with fuel consumption will be more reliable if you use special calculators. But even the approximately withdrawn amount will inspire confidence in you, and you can already estimate the budget. Throwing a thousand and a half rubles on top, you can be sure that now you definitely have enough money for the journey. Well, if they stay, it’s only uplifting!
