Any clothing, of course, has its own size in order to fit its future owner when buying. Since the manufacturers of dresses are trying to expand their assortment by the presence of all sizes and cuts, so as not to lag behind in monopoly, they just need to evaluate a particular item of clothing, providing it with an appropriate tag. But what should a customer do, who can’t always make out according to the designation on the tag, “will this jacket fit” on him, or is “that shirt” too wide?
Types of Designations
To determine the size of clothes, designations are used in generally accepted alphabetic, less often in numeric characters. The following symbols can be found on clothing labels: XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL. Sometimes, in men's clothing, along with the main definition of size, N, B, S, U are also used. For growth and splendor of the body, the symbols L and W are used, next to which numerical definitions are affixed. There are differences in the literal display of the sizes of bras: AA, A, B, C, D, DD, F, G. On the packaging of pantyhose, except for the main size, numerical characters from 1 to 5 are marked. Each garment is characterized by its own rules for determining the size. It should also be borne in mind that the designation of clothing sizes in different countries differs from each other.
Special lettering
Before you disassemble the basic definitions of sizes, it is worth considering those that keep up with them and sometimes appear on tags. These include, for example, the size of the trousers, oriented to the length of the leg and the figure of a person.
Length is divided into the following groups:
- L30: leg length (hereinafter - LH) - 76 cm, human height (hereinafter - RF) - 170 cm;
- L32: LH - 81 cm, RF - 170-178 cm;
- L34: LH - 86 cm, RF - 178-188 cm;
- L36: LH - 91 cm, RF - more than 188 cm.

- W28: waist (hereinafter - FROM) - 71 cm;
- W29: FROM - 74 cm;
- W30: FROM - 76 cm;
- W31: FROM - 79 cm;
- W32: FROM - 81 cm;

- W36: FROM - 91 cm;
- W38: FROM - 97 cm;
- W40: FROM - 102 cm;
- W42: FROM - 107 cm;

Men's clothing has its own additions in the classification:
- N: standard figure, height 162 cm. For a person with such parameters, clothing sizes from 42 to 82 are suitable, while only even numerical formulations.
- B: the figure is standard, but with a protruding belly, height 168 cm and above. The sizes for such people are odd numerical values from 51 to 81.
- S: a thin figure, height 177 cm and above. Sizing is carried out from 90 to 126, sometimes 194 and 198.
- U: stocky, sturdy physique for which sizes from 24 to 38 are suitable.

General decoding of letter designations of clothing sizes:
- XXS - very, very small: used in the definition of women's wardrobe. In shirts, sweaters and t-shirts: the European size (hereinafter - EP) - 32, our domestic (hereinafter - OP) - 40. In trousers, jeans, skirts: EP - 24, OP - 40.

Decoding for tights
The sizes indicated not only on the labels for clothes of the beautiful half of humanity, but also on the packaging of women's things are not always clear. These include sizing for tights. Like clothing sizes, the designations for tights are alphabetic, but numerical formats from 0 to 8 are most often used:
- 0 and 1, or 1S are suitable for growth up to 165 cm, weight up to 55 kg;
