Rights of the boiler operator
What rights does the boiler room operator have? Job description prescribes the following items for this specialist:
- Has the right to demand from the management all the necessary tools and elements of parts, as well as protective clothing, safety shoes and other protective equipment.
- Able to offer bosses their ideas and plans regarding improving working and working conditions.
- The employee has the right not to listen to the instructions of the management, but only if they contradict the safety precautions, life and human health.
- The employee has the right to work in optimal and reasonably comfortable conditions, without violations by the authorities or other persons representing the organization.

Responsibility of the boiler operator

In particular, the job description of the specialist prescribes that the employee is responsible:
- for complete failure to perform or improper performance of their job functions;
- for causing material damage to the organization;
- for a crime or offense committed by workers in the workplace;
- for violation of safety precautions or internal regulations;
- for disclosing production secrets.

Responsibilities of the boiler operator
What functions does the boiler operator have? The duties of this specialist are incredibly extensive and are connected, moreover, with the level of qualification and rank. That is why only the most basic and generalized functions will be named below:
- The employee is obliged to take any measures to ensure uninterrupted steam production in the right quantities and in accordance with established standards.
- The boiler operator is required to maintain a so-called “shift journal”. Proper completion, its execution, provision to the authorities - all this is also included in the range of duties of the specialist in question.
- The boiler station operator must monitor the gas level and its flow rate; however, all identified comments should also be recorded.
- One of the functions of the specialist in question is a routine inspection of the boiler station, and more specifically, all available mechanisms and equipment (this includes pumps, measuring instruments, various units, etc.)
Thus, the boiler room operator has fairly extensive functions. Obligations under ETKS (single tariff guide), however, may slightly differ from those that are present directly at the factory. Everything will also depend on the place of work, on the region, in the end, even on the bosses. A category with a skill level also plays a role (for example, the duties of a solid fuel boiler operator will differ from the functions that an ordinary specialist performs).
Change of the boiler room by the operator
It is worth telling about a special type of responsibility of the operator of the boiler station, namely about the delivery of duty.
What must the boiler operator do at the end of his shift? The responsibilities of this specialist in this case are as follows:
- The specialist should carefully review all entries left in the shift journal. If any shortcomings or problems are found, it is necessary to inform the authorities about them.
- It is necessary to conduct a complete round-trip of the station: nothing should leak anywhere or work improperly. Again, if you find a problem, you must try to fix it. If the problem is too big, you have to inform the management about it and ask for help.
- It is necessary to obtain information on the operation of critical equipment.
- It is necessary to check the operation of the alarm.
- The employee must be aware of all repairs carried out at the station.

Boiler room operator 4 categories
It is the 4th category in the profession under consideration that is considered one of the most common, and therefore important. In total, there are 6 categories in the working sphere.
The job description of the boiler operator of the 4th category prescribes the following functions and responsibilities for the specialist:
- Inspection, maintenance and repair of steam and water heating boilers (heating capacity not exceeding 84 GJ / h).
- Maintenance of boilers from heating systems, as well as crushed steam stations (more than 84 GJ / h).
- Checking the readings of instrumentation - the level of pressure, temperature, water in boilers, gases, etc.
- Regulation of the load of a boiler in accordance with the standards and schedules of consumption.
- Identification and elimination of various kinds of problems and malfunctions in the operation of existing equipment.
Thus, the responsibilities of the operator of a boiler room of category 4 are very extensive and complex.
General safety requirements
There are a large number of safety rules for boiler workers.
Below are only the most basic of them:
- the doors to the boiler station must be open (but only during operation);
- ignition of the boiler is unacceptable without the permission of the management;
- any boiler repair work is carried out with at least three employees;
- equipment must not be left unattended;
- Do not be distracted;
- it is forbidden to dry clothes or any other things on the boiler.
