In the old quarter of Khamovnikov, not far from Arbat, there is a massive three-story stone building called the Berg mansion, in which the Italian Embassy in Moscow has been operating for more than half a century. Short historical background
The architecture of the building synthesized various styles in which the history of metropolitan architecture was reflected. At the end of the 19th century, the mansion was built by a representative of the rich nobility, Sergey Pavlovich Berg.
The architect P. S. Boytsov in the design of the exterior appearance of the building combined two styles: neo-baroque and neoclassicism. The interior was created by Dulin, Adamovich and Flodini. It was one of the first Moscow electrified houses.
After the revolution, the building housed a German mission, led by von Mirbach, who was killed there by Cheka officers from among the Left Social Revolutionaries. Later, the headquarters of the Executive Committee of the Comintern were organized in the mansion, where one could meet Lenin, Krupskaya, Bukharin, Radek, Trotsky, Zinoviev.
In 1924, the Italian ambassador drove here for the first time. After the complication of diplomatic relations with this country, the residence was handed over to the Japanese ambassador.
