When the rise is not a joy: scientists have proven that women do not aspire to bosses

Promoting to a managerial position or something higher in the workplace sounds like good news for any ambitious person. You climb the career ladder, get a higher salary and have more opportunities for decision making. Who will not be happy, right? But a study published in SAGE magazines destroyed this myth and concluded that satisfaction with one’s career after promotion is different from gender to gender.

Study

Scientist Daniel Loop, senior lecturer in quantitative sociology at the University of Middlesex in London, examined ten-year data that provided information on thousands of male and female employees. All of them were promoted to higher and lower management positions.

Loop concluded that men reported increased job satisfaction after being promoted to managerial roles, and on the other hand, women witnessed a significantly lower level of satisfaction. In fact, job satisfaction among female candidates declined significantly after a year after promotion.

Main reasons

The researcher said that women managers face various obstacles, such as “challenging their legitimacy, underestimating their contribution and exclusion from powerful networks”, which affect their job satisfaction and make it harder for women to survive in the corporate world when they are appointed to higher positions .

The study also talked about the level of satisfaction with women's work when they were upgraded to a management level. It is interesting to note that the level of satisfaction with their work has remained the same, and in the case of male employees this level has increased.

That is, it is fair to say that it is the pressure on women that causes such a feeling after increasing them. So how do you overcome this problem? Is any solution possible?

It's a vicious circle?

The results of this study are consistent with the “glass ceiling” hypothesis that work is more difficult for women, despite their level of development in this area. It goes without saying that women are less likely to be eligible for higher positions than men who are willing to occupy these places and remain fully satisfied. After all, it is unlikely that a woman will be ready to take a serious post if she does not like this prospect and does not feel happy. Yes, any person will not want to have any progress then, if he is not satisfied with it. After all, what's the point of mocking yourself and your feelings? It is better to occupy the previous position, while happily rising to work in the morning.

At a time when women are on a par with men in almost all areas, this problem should certainly be addressed in jobs around the world. Loop says: “Having gained good mentors who want to honestly share their complex management experience, a new generation of women managers can be more prepared for career advancement.”

Conclusion

It is likely that soon this dissatisfaction will disappear. After all, judge for yourself where it comes from? Most likely, due to a lack of certain knowledge and some endurance before the responsibility. If you work with this, the woman will begin to feel more confident and calm, which will itself affect the feeling of satisfaction.

Thus, there will be far more skilled workers in the world, and perhaps gender inequality will be minimized in the workplace. After all, it is it, as such, for the most part that can cause dissatisfaction.
