10 wonders of the world of modern architecture: unusual buildings that amaze with their beauty

Thousands of structures are being built every day. Architects never cease to amaze. Some buildings are unremarkable, and some are forced to stop and enjoy their beauty. But there are some of the most bizarre ones that made it into the "Top 10 Wonders of the World in Modern Architecture."

Lotus

This building (main photo) is a lotus flower, located in the middle of an artificial lake in a city park in China and is a government agency. This is a fully functioning complex, in which there are several conference rooms, a department of urban planning. "Lotus" was built with the aim of improving the mood of visitors at any time of the year, to please them with bright and colorful light.

Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center

The building is located in Baku, and it was designed by Zaha Hadid. This architect is known for his ability to combine soft curved lines that suddenly fold into sharp corners. Zaha himself notes that this is intended to complement the natural topography of the landscape.

The center is named after one of the presidents of Azerbaijan. And in 2014 it was even recognized as the best building in the world. Light color symbolizes the future. Inside the center there are two decorative ponds and a lake.

Atomium

This building is more like a sculpture. The authors Jean and Andre Polack were inspired by the structure of the molecule, which consists of atoms, which is why this name came about. The Atomium was built for the World Exhibition in 1958 in Belgium and is one of the oldest buildings in this collection. Today there is a museum and a restaurant.

Tourists come in droves to admire the huge "atoms". Also in the upper ball is an observation platform where you can admire the beauties of the city.

Hotel Inntel

How can you create a modern and traditional building? The design of a hotel in Amsterdam offers one answer to this question.

Green wooden houses with white cladding are a traditional feature of the Zandam region in the Netherlands. And the Union of Architects built a hotel that looked like a bunch of houses in this city, casually stacked on top of each other. The design was so successful that the hotel has been fully booked since 2016.

Cybertectural egg

India is a wonderland. One of these wonders is the Cyber-Tectural Egg, which was built in 2010 in the city of Mumbai. This building was created by a group of architects who endowed it with media systems and futuristic forms. The building is used as offices. Built-in intelligent system controls the temperature and condition of workers. Computers can measure the temperature, pressure, weight of everyone who is inside.

Interestingly, the Egg occupies a very small area on the ground, approximately 10-20% of the usual construction. It also has built-in solar panels, turbines that use wind energy. Many call it "The structure of the future."

Metropolitan gate

This 35-story building is one of the tallest buildings in Abu Dhabi. However, its most interesting feature is not its height or even its original appearance. The most attractive feature is the angle at which it is built. This is really amazing!

The building is tilted 18 degrees from the center. For comparison, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is inclined only 4 degrees. Therefore, the Capital Gate entered into the Guinness Book of Records as "the most artificially tilted tower in the world."

Does this building not look like a huge alien? Locals call it that. Kunsthaus is an art museum located in Graz. It was built in 2003.This cultural center features exhibits of 20th-century contemporary art. At night, the glass side of the building flickers with numerous lights that look like huge rings. This visually makes it even bigger.

City of Arts and Sciences

City of Arts and Sciences - a complex consisting of five buildings. This is an opera house, cinema, garden, science museum, oceanographic park. Although the buildings look disproportionate, it is considered an architectural masterpiece and one of the main attractions of Spain.

An interesting fact is that the city is located in the place where once there was a channel of the Turia River. It was drained and redirected, because it was this river that caused a catastrophic flood in 1957. But the riverbed remained and was transformed into a beautiful park.

Crescent Tower

The crescent moon looks very natural, as if it fell from the sky and landed in Dubai, right in the middle of Zaabil Park. This 33-story building is an entertainment center. It symbolizes the participation of this country in the Islamic world.

Museum of Science and Art

This is the first museum in the world that brings together various exhibitions, both permanent and temporary. Many of them are interactive and are not limited to just one area. For example, historical, physical halls, an art exhibition and a music concert - all under one roof.

An interesting feature of the museum is that in the middle it collects rainwater, which is then used to flush toilets.
