This is a failure: 5 habits that put you in an unprofessional light at business meetings

Regardless of which company you work in, most likely you have to attend various meetings and attend business meetings. Although you may complain that you have to spend time in conference rooms every week, the reality is that you must attend meetings as needed. In this case, how you behave during these meetings is very important. It is behavior that affects which professional side you will be considered. Therefore, be sure to try to avoid the following actions that will negatively affect your career.

Constantly checking email or text messages

When you are one of the participants in the meeting, while not taking an active part in the process, it is not recommended to be distracted by the phone. While a casual look while sitting for a long time may be acceptable, do not be the person whose eyes are glued to the mobile phone all the time. If you are not the CEO of a large corporation, any messages arriving during this hour can probably wait, and checking them constantly indicates that you are clearly not interested in a discussion.

Don't fall asleep

Sometimes meetings are boring. But allowing yourself to doze off during them is simply unacceptable. If you are tired of coming to a meeting, whether from general exhaustion or especially bad night sleep, bring a caffeinated drink or even a bottle of ice water so that you do not fall asleep. And if you really feel that you are weakening, apologize, go to the toilet, splash some water on your face, and then come back and take part in the process.

Do not eat during the meeting

Such behavior is unacceptable to people. Eating during a meeting is bad form. But if you are still going to have a snack or eat food during the meeting, do it quietly and choose those foods that you can eat quickly and accurately. Also, keep in mind that some food smells may bother others, and avoid foods that can really smell strongly in a closed conference room, such as fish or hot sauces.

Do not discuss absent people and do not interrupt

If you intend to attend the meeting, you want your voice to be heard when questions arise that you have an opinion on. But talking about other people is not the smartest move. By doing so, you will look rude, and it will be difficult for your interlocutors to take you seriously. Also do not interrupt. Instead, wait your turn to speak, and if it's really hard for you to put in a word, raise your hand is a good idea.

Don't be late

Sometimes being late for meetings is unavoidable, for example, when you have a previous meeting that ends. But constant being late for meetings shows that you do not respect other people. To avoid this, make it a habit to come to meetings 15 minutes ahead of schedule and plan your time in advance.

Meeting at work is often inevitable, but do not let your behavior during them tarnish your reputation. Instead, make an effort to get rid of the above habits. If they have been in the past.
