Are you ready for dismissal: a businessman friend advised asking himself a few questions before leaving work

The decision to dismiss is hardly given to anyone easily. Even if a person says goodbye to work, feeling relieved, ahead of him new tasks and problems await, and most importantly - a sense of suspense. After all, no one can guarantee that a new place will be better until its pros and cons are practically tested. For this reason, my friend, who has been engaged in entrepreneurial activities for a long time, did not recommend me in a hurry to say goodbye to my previous position. Before leaving, he advised me to answer 5 questions that helped me make the right decision with more confidence.

1. What do I expect from a job change?

There are no ideal companies, so in any case, a change of work is a way of compromise. Leaving from one place and the device to another suggests that only the configuration of concessions and victims will change, with which it will be necessary to reconcile. Conversely, new prospects and opportunities may open up, which is a plus. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the expectations of a change in the current situation, which certainly has its advantages.

2. What are personal goals?

Although we are talking about building a career and major changes in this area of vital interests, it is important to consider personal aspirations. Work imposes restrictions on personal life, but also provides resources for achieving goals beyond career growth. These aspects should also be considered before parting with the current place of work.

3. Is this decision impulsive?

Very many employees succumb to momentary weakness, parting with the place of work almost thoughtlessly under the influence of emotions. Hard working days, lack of time for personal life, constant tension and stress are typical factors against which decisions about dismissal are made. But, perhaps, the problem will be solved by taking a vacation or in the course of a conversation with the authorities about changing working conditions. If the boss appreciates his employee, then he will certainly listen to his requests.

4. Is there a willingness to change?

The change of workplace as such involves a change in many parameters of the usual way of life. Of course, a new leader, a new salary and work responsibilities come to the fore. But there will also be a new and general psychological climate in the team, possibly new clients and partners. You will have to get used to all these aspects of the changes, not to mention the minor technical issues.

5. Is dismissal appropriate for this period of life?

This step will certainly require certain resources and some changes in existing plans. It is one thing if a decision is being prepared for several months and all other life plans are subordinate to it, but in the opposite case, a change of work can cause a lot of most unexpected problems.

This list of questions from my friend does not at all set the goal of a fundamental change in the decision that could already be taken internally. Perhaps there is every reason for him, and it was even belated. However, honest answers to yourself will minimize the risk of error and at least prepare for change with more responsibility than before.
