From a radio host to a cool blogger: the fascinating story of a woman who gets paid to drive the most expensive cars

Sitting behind the wheel of a Batman car is a typical day in the life of Alex Hirschi, better known as a blonde in a supercar. She currently has 3.5 million followers on Instagram and 1.5 million followers on YouTube, who are looking forward to her next updates.

From Australia to Dubai

When Alex left her native Australia 10 years ago to get a radio presenter in Dubai, she could not even think how much her life would change. The 33-year-old woman has always loved cars, and her fun work on the radio was the beginning of her current lifestyle.

“First they gave me a Bentley for a few days. I could end it all up, ”Alex admits. - But I decided to go for the McLaren and Ferrari to Dubai. People who give cars to car journalists recognized my radio show and were happy to help, which was great. ”

The beginning of a new career

Turning to manufacturers and car owners to support a popular radio show is one thing, but deciding to quit work to do it yourself meant starting all over again.

“As soon as I quit my job on the radio, I stopped being a journalist, so I no longer had the opportunity to get cars,” said Hirschi. - In fact, I attended a huge number of automotive events, met many car owners and traveled everywhere to achieve something unique. At first there was a lot of work, and it is still there. Sometimes it’s enough for me to make one phone call and get the coolest car, and sometimes it can take several months. People laugh at my social media accounts because they don’t understand how much work has been done. It’s like creating specific content. ”

Popularity increase

Over several years, the audience of Alex on social networks has increased several times. Her husband, Nick, who organizes most of the filming and moving the girl, also helped her in this. Just look at her Instagram feed and you will see who is in her support group: Jay Leno, Stig, Keanu Reeves - and these are just a few of them.

Alex came to Berlin to get what she calls a super hypercar - the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo.

Batman machine

It began with a conceptual model designed to mark the 15th anniversary of the legendary Gran Turismo video game series in 2012. Then Justice League director Zack Schneider decided he wanted Bruce Wayne to truly drive in the 2017 film. “Mercedes” was included in the film, creating a version of the car at a scale of 110%, so that Batman's star Ben Affleck could ideally fit there.

After the car was painstakingly and accurately unloaded from the truck, the same car in which Affleck appeared on the big screen was here in Berlin so that Alex could really enjoy it.

It may not be exactly the same car, but the car costs a pretty staggering amount of money. Perhaps this makes Alex nervous from time to time.

“I was driving cars that cost $ 6 million, so now I’m not so nervous because I did it many times. However, I have to be confident, because otherwise, something might go wrong if I touch it, ”says Alex Hirschi. - I also travel to many different countries, so I do not know the exact rules of the road. I am a confident driver, but whenever you drive such cars, you should be careful. This cannot be ruled out, but it is also part of the fun. ”

Blonde in a supercar

After Alex attracted millions of viewers to her social networks, she moved on to her first series, "Filming in a Car with a Blonde in a Supercar." In the series, the girl left the comfort zone to infiltrate the culture of alternative cars throughout the United States. As she crosses the country, Alex learns to drift in New York, tastes muscular cars and drag racing in Detroit, meets with teams in Las Vegas and plunges into street racing in Los Angeles.

There is always support

Support for a full-fledged television team allowed Alex to participate in more extreme shows. “In Los Angeles, we went to Compton and talked with all the gang members. Then they told me that the only reason they are not involved in breaking the law is a shared love of cars. It was real, the girl admits. - Many of them said that the cars did not allow them to turn off the right path. I was in such a situation that I couldn’t shoot it on video, otherwise they would not agree to talk heart to heart with me. But I managed to at least hear their stories. In this show you will see both people and cars. ”

Alex believes that most of her successful growth in social networks comes down to not getting bogged down in technical details.

“Now I know about cars much more than a few years ago, because I am with them every day. But when I shoot a video or go up to the car, it does not change my attitude to it, because I want to make cars more attractive. I think the car world can be scary sometimes. If people do not have much knowledge about them, they often feel vulnerable and this is bad. This should not be. ”

According to the girl, many people simply feel that they are not worthy to be near a particular car, go to events and ask questions. They think that it is impossible for non-experts to do so. But this is wrong, because cars are for everyone. The technical characteristics of the machine care only 1%. Most people care only about the cool look of the car, flashing buttons and gadgets.

Alex may have quit her job to earn a living as a modern, popular personality on social media, but she warns those who want to follow in her footsteps.

“The only advice I give people is do not strive to become an influential person. This is not a job. The job is to create content. If you create it well enough, you will have an audience, then earnings will be a by-product of this. Find what you love and create content that is not like the rest. "You have to be better, different from others, and develop a strategy to get people's attention for two seconds while they flip through the news feed."
