Motivation for visiting the workplace and beyond: employee benefits that the company should avoid

In some cases, companies should not offer their employees excessive benefits, as this can harm both the employees themselves and the company. In order to find a reasonable balance, you need to listen to the advice of experienced psychologists. They suggest avoiding the following aspects.

Fully Paid Benefits

Offering one hundred percent payment of benefits is an overrated job. Carefully analyze the demand of employees for certain services. If you even partially help them with benefits (up to 70%), this will be a great motivation. The bottom line is that people do not enjoy many privileges, because they do not need them. But if you offer them for free, then everyone will queue for their receipt.

Promoting Participation

In some overly flexible organizations, incentives for participation do not work, as people react differently to the schedule. Some people are ready to work without holidays and without extra days off, and this does not reduce their productivity. Others need a full and long vacation, otherwise they will not be able to work normally. Therefore, try to approach this issue according to an individual scheme.

Rest during breaks

Some companies offer a short sleep between working hours. Perhaps this is a good idea, but not at all enterprises. You can imagine that a huge company with large projects would allow its employees to retire in separate rooms and sleep soundly. This would give the organizers great trouble. Firstly, it is necessary to provide sleeping places, and secondly, to change the schedule, since everyone will want to sleep after lunch, and this is problematic.

Free snacks

You need to take care of your staff, but do not allow yourself to transfer people to unhealthy diets. We are talking about the large quantities of sweets and coffee that are offered to employees. Even those who do not consume large amounts of sugar or caffeine at home, in a few days will become almost dependent on such promotions. Breaks will become frequent (every two hours), and not only labor productivity may suffer, but also people's health will be shaken.

Entertaining workspaces

Places where employees can play a fun game during breaks are now becoming very popular. But this idea wears out quickly, because people can be too distracted, and then it’s hard to get involved. Therefore, instead of equipping additional places for the game and spending money on this idea, it is better to become a more attentive boss and provide targeted assistance.

Catering Lunches

Many managers offer their subordinates free dinners in the cafeterias. They believe that people will spend less time on a break, eat quickly and get to work. But the reality is that workers still need rest. They will not be able to gain strength during a quick snack, and their productivity will decrease. And if they will be able to go out into the fresh air or spend this hour as they see fit, they will return to the office fresh and rested.

Gym Membership

People who want to attend a gym are used to paying for it, and this is not a particular problem for them. And those who never went there will never take advantage of free membership. Therefore, do not waste your money on additional premises and equipment, this will not lead to an increase in love for physical education and sports.

Excessive flexibility

Flexibility is always a very good feature for the boss and his subordinates. But excessive flexibility is fraught with negative consequences. You can make concessions if necessary (for example, let a person go home earlier due to his family circumstances). But if you constantly allow him to leave an empty seat, you may no longer meet him at work. People will get into the rule that you don’t apply for permission, and they will set their own schedule, which is very bad. Such privileges should not be used in your company.

Means to keep people in the office longer

There are many companies that offer after work free drinks and desserts, cafeterias and make-up studios. But all this is just disguised handcuffs. Thus, management wants to keep people in the workplace with all their might in order to increase productivity. In reality, everything turns out the other way around. Workers give so much strength and energy that they quickly burn out. And this is a huge cause for concern. Such a team not only will not be able to demonstrate quality work, it can lead the company to bankruptcy. This is equivalent to forcing seriously ill people to work.

Free smartphone

Such a wonderful gift from the company may seem dangerous upon close examination. Everyone will take a smartphone with pleasure, because they understand its great value. But workers forget that now they will be required to constantly be in touch. Is this sufficient compensation for never having your own personal time?
