Headings

We saved for a long time and decided on an expensive purchase: a businessman friend gave some advice that helped us a lot

Do you dream about this car? Or is this new generation computer not giving you peace of mind? Or maybe you are attracted by a precious ring with a stunning diamond? Do not make sudden movements!

An expensive purchase is not the same as buying cookies at a nearby store, and you should be well aware of this.

If you are going to make an important purchase, please take the time and analyze all the possibilities before you make a deal.

But what does an expensive purchase mean? I don’t think that Bill Gates would suffer too much from buying a computer. It is unlikely that this will affect his well-being. However, for a college student or mid-level manager, this is a whole event.

It is generally accepted that an expensive purchase is one that exceeds your annual income. That is, if you earn 30 thousand rubles a month, you can consider expensive any item whose price is equal to or exceeds 360 thousand rubles. It doesn’t matter whether you make a purchase for savings, or take the right amount on credit, you need to approach the deal wisely so that you do not have to bite your elbows later.

Recently my family’s old dream has come true. But the important gain was not impulsive: for a long time we weighed all the pros and cons. And 4 councils of a friend-entrepreneur who helped a lot with the reasonable spending of personal funds helped us a lot.

Desire or necessity?

Answer this question honestly. This step is necessary before making an expensive purchase.

Sometimes people spend all their savings and even go into debt for things that they absolutely do not need. Unfortunately, the mentality of our fellow citizens is as follows. The whole world has long been striving to reduce spending and abandon the so-called status things, and we continue to spend money on goods that help us seem cooler and prove something to others.

If you dream of a necklace that will make your friends jealous, if you need a business class car that you cannot afford, if you need a supercomputer to wipe your friends’s nose, you should know that you are on the wrong track. This is the wrong motivation.

Need is what allows us to be more productive in the short or medium term. Let's go back to the computer example. For a student, having a computer is a necessity, as he will finish his work on time, gain access to information, be able to learn and use new programs. Together, all this will help him grow professionally.

Analyze your performance

Recently, I heard from a technology expert that I shouldn’t buy something (for example, a camera), if within 7 or 8 months the acquisition does not pay for itself. An expensive professional camera with a bunch of optics is a good buy if you work as a photographer, but completely meaningless if you are just a selfie lover - a smartphone is enough for these purposes.

When you purchase something expensive, you expect that it will generate income that will allow you to at least return the invested amount. If not, it is better to choose a cheaper model or brand.

Ask yourself if you will really use this.

Do not even think about buying a car if there is no parking space near your office or you don’t have enough money even after renting a garage to buy it. Do not buy a very expensive camcorder if you want to record only your birthday. There are other more profitable alternatives. If you intend to use the property you intend to purchase once or twice, consider renting it.

Check prices

And, last but not least, never stop at the very first sentence that caught your eye. Monitor the market, study the offers of different sellers. If possible, consult with suppliers from abroad who can send you the specified product at a bargain price.

You can choose the desired thing at the best possible price only by studying all the offers that are on the market.
