Scientists say it's better to work with employees of the opposite sex

Each in his own way imagines a dream job. Someone likes to work in a team with representatives of their gender, and someone is more attracted to a team in which there are both men and women. But did you know that scientists have definitely been able to establish which team will do better? One in which there is gender diversity.

Curious experiment

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and George Washington University studied the results of surveys of employees of several Boston companies, which were conducted between 1995 and 2002. The results really surprised them. It turns out that the income of firms where approximately the same number of women and men worked was forty-one percent more than in companies where employees of the same sex prevailed.

Thus, scientists have concluded that gender diversity is the key to success. However, everything is not as simple as it seems at first glance.

Same-sex team

In the survey, employees were asked how satisfied they were with their work, whether they felt happy, etc. So, people who worked with colleagues of their gender admitted that they feel more than comfortable. Scientists explained this by the fact that when a person communicates with people close to him in spirit, he thinks less about work, and spends more time talking. That is, the team has such a relaxing, trusting and warm atmosphere that employees experience less stress and more easily perceive any lesions.

What is the catch? The fact that personal relationships are prioritized business. People think more about how not to offend anyone and spoil their relationship, rather than how to develop a project. Simply put, they are adrift. They are all happy.

Gender diversity

Employees who worked with members of the opposite sex admitted that they did not feel happy. But, as can be seen from the results of the study, they turned out to be more productive. Where does this paradox come from?

The thing is that when men and women work in one team, they are faced with a misunderstanding, a contradiction, a different point of view. Men and women look at the same things differently, but are forced to seek a compromise. As a result of the discussions, more creative ideas arise. People are forced to step up all their forces in order to accept and understand employees of the other sex. Hence the high productivity, and at the same time dissatisfaction with work.
