There are not so few billionaires in the world, but there are only a few people who are unique, who create entire empires from nothing. Among these unique personalities is the British entrepreneur Richard Branson, books, history, whose life is incredible and unique.
Children's years, school enterprise
Richard Branson was born in 1950 in London in a large family of a lawyer. Already in his childhood, he impressed others with a penchant for risky ideas and ideas. Sometimes the degree of adventurism of his designs and ingenuity were truly stunning. However, with the start of schooling, parents were seriously worried - teachers sounded the alarm: the boy is not teaching. Indeed, it later emerged that Richard was dyslexic. But this did not stop him from gaining authority among his classmates, largely due to his success in sports and his temperament-prone character.
Despite the noble roots and considerable wealth of their ancestors, Branstons were limited in means. Therefore, from childhood, Richard's entrepreneurial mind has generated business ideas. True, at that stage they are often unsuccessful. So, the first way to make money that came to the mind of an eleven-year-old Richard was to grow Christmas trees by Christmas, which he did in the company of the same groovy friend named Nick.
First victory
However, success was not long in coming - as a fifteen-year-old schoolboy, Branson brilliantly realized his first business idea - the magazine "Student". His friends helped him again in realizing the plan, however, all the craziest and most effective ideas were born precisely in his head. So, the idea with the magazine came to life from a number of proposals put forward for reforming the school system, which Branson was going to publish in the school newspaper. But the breadth of thought could not be limited by anything. Why write to a school newspaper if you can create your own publication with your own rules? Why publish a newspaper only for schoolchildren, if it can be included in the number of readers and students? Why confine yourself to London, if you can create a magazine for the entire student audience of England?
So, at the age of 15, Richard began to publish a magazine that gained real ubiquitous popularity in the country. He managed to attract advertisers by phoning them from a telephone box and cheating on how many customers had already placed their ads in the new magazine. It was lucky to get on the cover a drawing of the then fashionable artist - Gerald Scarf, as well as completely free interviews with John Lennon and Mick Jagger.
Despite recognition and success, a year later the publication had to be closed. The "student" did not bring the proper income, but Richard deeply appreciated the experience that he gained by cultivating the first business project.
Kaleidoscope of ideas and designs
And from that moment on, Richard Branson’s business wheel has set in motion and does not stop to this day. The next step was the sale of defective music records, which gradually grew into a recording business. One day, Richard drew attention to how decisively people put out money for new music albums, sometimes even refusing to satisfy other, more urgent needs. The price of the records at that time was high, and in this situation Branson also saw a good opportunity for making money: he bought a significant amount of defective records at sales and arranged for their sale first by mail, then rented a small department in a popular shoe store. The new business was called “Virgin” - virginity, which symbolized the first steps of young people in business.
The increase in revenue allowed Richard to implement one idea after another. The music business was a favorite brainchild. In the recording studio he created, stars began to light up - the Sex Pistols band, singer Sting and others. The sale of records (which was already conducted through the whole Virgin network) and the recording business was followed by the sale of film production, the acquisition of nightclubs, including those with a dubious reputation. And finally, the eyes of a young and brilliant businessman turned to the airline business. Virgin Atlantic, founded by him during a fierce struggle with the giant British Airlines, nevertheless occupied its niche in the market of air transportation services. True, building up such a risky and difficult business from the point of view of competition required sacrifices - we had to part with the record companies, selling it for only one billion dollars.
Empire Virgin is being
Needless to say, Branson could not stop there. Now Virgin empire is more than 400 various brands and directions around the world. Among the entrepreneurial ideas realized by Richard, one can find anything: a network of resorts, a developed hotel business, the sale of mobile phones, clothes, etc. Not every Richard Branson's business creative turned out to be successful, but his credo was and remains an action without regard to failures. According to various sources, the state of a brilliant entrepreneur currently varies in the range from 5 to 5.5 billion dollars.
Richard Branson: "To hell with everything! Take it and do it!"
Despite the fact that at the initial stage, Branson managed to turn a number of adventures and achieve success in a not entirely legal way, from a certain moment the billionaire has been preaching the principles of honesty and openness towards others. The main value for him is people - at work and at home.
One of the forms of openness and directness, so fervently promoted by him, was the writing of an autobiography, in which he described his life in detail and revealed all the secrets of phenomenal success. The book is called "Losing Innocence." Richard Branson released it in 1998. In addition to the details of transactions, agreements reached, which are described in detail in these books, Richard shares his view on the relationship of people, the solution of various problems and the development of effective ideas. For example, he considers very valuable moments when he is poorly served and poorly provided.
It would seem that an ordinary person is indignant in such a situation, and Branson uses it to invent a new way to earn money. However, like many other billionaires, he focuses on the fact that making money should not be an end in itself, you just need to do your job well, and then everything will be. Even while publishing the book Losing Innocence, rich in valuable information, Richard Branson primarily sought to share his knowledge and experience, not excluding, of course, the possibility of making money on this best-selling book. Later, another novel was released with the emotional title “To hell with everything!” Take it and do it! ” Richard Branson, whose book is still at the peak of popularity, is not going to stop there and continues to produce autobiographical bestsellers.
Personal life and hobbies
Looking at the flamboyant pictures of Branson in wedding dresses, with bright makeup or with a nude model behind, you can hardly imagine that he is a good husband and father of two children. Joan Templeman - his second wife, the marriage with the first wife fell apart pretty quickly due to Richard's excessive immersion in work. Joan is patient and condescending to his husband’s regular demonstrative antics, rightly believing that this is the flip side of his entrepreneurial genius. However, their family life does not go without misunderstanding, when Branson again and again takes to setting records. Balloon flights across the ocean, kite surfing and other mind-boggling entertainment are all exactly what makes it even more attractive in the eyes of journalists and the general public. The principle that Richard Branson confidently preaches is "Take it and do it!" - to this day is the main thing in his life.
