Mexico: national currency
The country's national currency is the Mexican peso. It is one of the oldest currencies in North America. Its original design comes from the Spanish silver dollar and the original eight pesos.
The currency of Mexico was the official means of payment in the two Americas and Canada until the mid-1850s.
For the twentieth century, the Mexican peso was a safe and stable currency until the 1970 oil crisis, which triggered an increase in Mexico's foreign loans. The modern Mexican government defaulted on the repayment of its international loans.
In the early 1990s, the government adopted a series of fundamental changes in monetary policy. One of the first changes concerned the revaluation of the value of the Mexican peso. New banknotes were printed with the smallest value of 10 pesos and the largest of 1,000 pesos.

Currency exchange
In Mexico, companies and entrepreneurs can no longer accept US dollars or convert. But they will tell you where the nearest currency exchange is located. If you have US dollars, there are several places where you can exchange them for Mexican pesos, for example:
- Currency exchange points. Usually find currency exchange point easily accessible at international airports throughout Mexico. They are identified by the sign "exchange".
