Use a student card: how to save money when buying Apple products

Do you want to buy a new Apple Watch, a new MacBook, a new iPad or a new iPhone? Then the joy of the new device can be quickly overshadowed by a hole in the bank account.

However, there are many ways to reduce the price of an Apple product without giving up on the latest technological innovations. For example, if you’re willing to give up lucrative deals, such as foil removal when you buy a new product, you can use a used Apple device.

Here are some more ways to save on Apple products.

Buy certified and refurbished products

Certified and refurbished products are the easiest way to save money on iPhone, Mac, iPad, and other devices.

Refurbished devices have new enclosures and cables and have been thoroughly tested by Apple. Certified refurbished devices also have the same warranty as the new Apple products, and Apple Care is also available.

The range of repaired equipment often changes. So keep checking if you don’t see the product or model you are looking for. Devices can be obtained at a discount of up to 15 percent of the original price.

Go back one generation

Whenever Apple launches a new iPhone, the price of previous-generation Apple smartphones drops. This is often true for other Apple devices. So if you can wait, you can save a lot of money. For example, when the iPhone XS came out, the iPhone 8 fell 100 euros for the price.

Buy used equipment

If you don't need the latest and greatest products, you can save on Apple products you buy second-hand. If a tech-savvy crowd is looking for the latest iPhone, MacBook or Apple Watch, you can buy the previous generation much cheaper.

The How-To-Geek website notes that used Apple devices are much cheaper than newer devices, but experience less cost loss than most other gadgets.

Use student discounts

Pupils, students and teachers receive Apple products as part of the Education Award. All you have to do is send your valid student ID card or the like to Apple. Prices may eventually become lower. Some products even come with an additional free device, such as Beats headphones.

Trade in old equipment

If you want to buy a new Apple product in the Apple Store, in return you can exchange one of your old devices for it and get discounts. The amount you receive depends on the initial cost of the replacement device, its age and condition. For example, you can get up to 440 euros for the iPhone and up to 1200 euros for the Mac.

Even for smartphones from other manufacturers, you can get money using the trade-in program. However, for some older devices, Apple does not provide any additional tools, but processes them for you. But then you may have to pay for the recycling.

Visit the sale

If you are students, teachers, you can join the annual sale, which takes place this year from October 9 to 17.

Certain products are especially sold, such as Beats headphones, Macs of all kinds, and even iPad.

Use offers from other sellers

Although Apple itself is unlikely to have any promotions, this does not stop other (online) stores from offering Apple products at a reduced price. So Media Markt, Saturn, as well as Amazon, again and again have attractive promotions for Apple devices.

Buy Apple products overseas

Flying to the United States to buy a MacBook for just a few hundred euros is hardly worth it. However, if you are still abroad, you should look at your local electronics store.

For example, the American Best Buy network offers so-called open products at a reasonable price. These are Apple devices that customers returned to stores after some time. Different stores have different products in their respective open box inventory, so it's worth a look around.
