The man set a new world record by eating 29 stalks of fresh nettle 60 cm each

A lot of nettle eaters gather at the Dorset Competition annually, competing fiercely with each other. Each of the contestants has their own, special and secret methods of victory.

Hungry Tony Jays made it to this annual nettle-eating championship by eating a total of more than seventeen meters of this burning plant. The man absorbed twenty-nine stalks of nettles, each of which was about sixty centimeters long. It’s scary to imagine what it was like after the championship!

Among women, a retired school teacher, sixty-seven-year-old Lindy Rogers, became the record holder. The former teacher ate more than fourteen meters of nettle, which is definitely a record in the female category of contestants.

Despite the fact that a sixty-seven-year-old contestant decided to take part in the championship at the very last moment, her technique of dipping nettle into cider was crucial.

The secret of success

After the championship, Lindy talked about her method: “I had a glass of pear and apple cider in which I dipped the folded leaves to make them wetter and easier to swallow. I am extremely happy about my victory, you have no idea. Of course "My tongue is black now, but despite this, I feel just fine."

Championship record holder

Three-time winner of this eccentric contest, Phil Trom, whose record is more than thirty meters of nettle, this year decided not to participate.

The twenty-third nettle championship was held at the Bottle Inn Pub in Marshwood Village, Dorset.

Championship History

It was first held in nineteen ninety-seven. Then the local farmer lost the bet to another farmer who had the longest nettle. The loser had to eat a whole stalk.

Pauline Brooks, the hostess of Bottle Inn Pub, shared her impressions after the championship: “This year we had a lot of newcomers, and they were all very brave. The weather was also beautiful, which could not but rejoice. This contributed to the fact that our daredevils came to see a lot of people. Of course, they supported them and gave them strength. "

This is a rather unusual championship. I think it would be interesting to see. It is hoped that all the participants are doing well now, and they will gather in this pub more than once to compete for the victory and the honorary title of champion. Would you decide to participate in such a competition for eating nettles?
