Temporary fencing of the construction site: instructions, installation features and recommendations

Any constructed or repaired object is dangerous for people around who are not protected by helmets and protective clothing, like workers on a construction site. There are risks of creating difficult situations, falling structures, materials, unregulated movement of equipment. To avoid this, establish a temporary fencing of the construction site. This is a prerequisite of SNiP 3.01.01-85 “Organization of construction production”.

Fencing Requirements

To regulate the parameters and installation rules of building envelopes, there is GOST 23407-78. According to paragraph 2 of the document, the following requirements:

1. Gates for people and passage gates for construction equipment must be present in the fence. Their number should correspond to the site organization project.
2. Prefabricated structures are made of unified (standardized universal) parts and fasteners.
3. Panels of any material should have a length of 1.2, 1.6, 2.0 meters.
4. The regulated height of the temporary fencing of the construction site: for peaks and peakless burglar-protective - 2 meters; for protective ones without a visor - 1.6 meters; for fences of the local workplace - 1.2 meters.
5. The distance between the uprights in the signal fence must not exceed 6 meters.
6. Sparseness of panels - no more than 100 cm.
7. Gaps in the sidewalk should not exceed 5 mm.
8. The pedestrian zone and the visor are rectangular, their length is equal to the length of the enclosing vertical panels.
9. The peak of the visor to the road or sidewalk should be 20 °.

Temporary fencing of the construction site must comply with the above requirements. Compliance with all points is monitored by supervisory authorities inspecting technical processes at the facilities.

Fencing classification

Insulating walls are distinguished by type of construction:

• Panel - the most reliable and thorough. They are a solid protective screen.
• Rack - roll materials stretched over poles.
• Combined.

Temporary fencing of the construction site can be plastic, metal, wooden or slate. All of these options are distinguished by functionality, quality and cost. However, not every material is suitable for use in areas of potential danger.

Each species has its own characteristics. They are taken into account when choosing the material to create the structure. At the design stage, an appropriate estimate is created. Temporary fencing of the construction site is set in preparation for installation work.

Metal

The most durable and reliable type of panels for temporary protection of a dangerous object is a profiled sheet. It is made of steel by the cold rolling method.

Temporary fencing of a construction site from a profiled sheet has advantages over other types:

• Quick installation.
• Relatively high strength and resistance to deformation.
• The profiled sheet partially absorbs production noise.
• The presentable appearance of the material will not spoil the appearance of the area, this quality is especially true for city streets.
• It’s difficult to climb over such a fence when it comes to the safety of an object and working devices.

The device of temporary fencing of the construction site is made from a special corrugated board for fences and facades. It has a sheet thickness of 0.7-1.0 mm.

Installation technology

Installation of the fence is similar to the construction of a full-fledged fence.Work is performed according to the following algorithm:

1. Training. Before installation, determine the required number of guide profiles and posts, material along the length, height. As support racks, it is advisable to use square profiles with a wall thickness of 2 mm and a side of 60 mm. For guides, take a flat or angular segment of a two-millimeter steel sheet.
   Tip: Do not use a profiled sheet thinner than 0.5 mm and a wave height of 20 mm - this is easily deformed in this type of structure.
2. Installation of support racks. They can be buried in the ground or mounted in concrete foundations. Mandatory installation of corner posts and supports at gates and gates. The rest are evenly distributed around the perimeter of the fence in increments of up to 3 meters.
3. Rail mounting When working with temporary fencing, it is important to use unified prefabricated structures, therefore, special fasteners are used. Sometimes welding is used. Profiles overlap to achieve greater strength. You should get 2 lines: the top and bottom, each backs 30 cm from the edge of the sheet.
4. Installation of corrugated board is carried out on self-tapping screws with a length of at least 20 mm. To get into the guide profile and not make extra holes, the craftsmen pull the cord through the entire sheet according to the level and produce fasteners.

Visors and pedestrian areas, if necessary, are performed last of all from wooden boards.

Tree

Most often you can find a wooden temporary fence of the construction site. The material is used for the following reasons:

• Wood is an affordable and environmentally friendly material.
• Correctly selected thickness of the boards provides a sufficient level of strength and, consequently, safety.
• High speed of assembly of the fence and its mobility.
• Board constructions can be used repeatedly.
• The possibility of fencing with peaks and pedestrian zones of the same material.

Plastic

The cheapest type of protection for a temporarily insecure zone. The most commonly used plastic net is mounted on racks. The material does not require special care, painting. The bright color of the polymer is noticeable for cars and pedestrians.

Installation of temporary fencing of a construction site can be carried out by one person. To do this, you need a roll of mesh and plastic stands with rubber support pillows. Everything is going on the basis of the constructor:

1. Racks are inserted into the pillows and set at the corners of the perimeter, then distributed on the sides. The pitch depends on the height of the mesh - the wider it is, the smaller the pitch of the supports. An average of 2.0-2.5 meters. If necessary, for longer use, the columns may be deepened into the ground.
2. Fasten the mesh. To do this, use clamps or wire, kapron threads.

Due to the softness of the material, the nets are not used to protect the sites of large construction projects, it is possible to install fences during road works and at local repair and construction events.

Metal grid

Prefabricated mesh panels are often used to protect pedestrians and cars during road works and the movement of heavy equipment near objects. Protections represent a wire 1-4 mm stretched on a framework from a steel pipe or profile. The panels are easy to move from place to place, they are installed in special stands.

Blocks are unsuitable for organizing fences of large construction projects because of their mobility and low strength.

Slate

The once popular roof covering material is sometimes used to organize temporary fencing of construction sites. It is worth noting that this is possible only in private practice, when there is a construction of a low house. Slate is very fragile and is afraid of moisture, therefore its use as a fence is doubtful.

Price

The arsenal of large construction organizations has reusable structures to protect the construction site.For private use, the purchase of such a fence is often impractical.

Currently, it is possible to rent a temporary fence for the construction site. The price includes the use of protective panels, fasteners, racks, completed according to the instructions. The rental price depends on the amount of material needed in meters.
