Different motives bring foreign visitors to Russia. Someone intends to work and live here, others come to their relatives, others to study at Russian universities.
Absolutely every foreigner must pass control at the Russian border. It is here that the migration card of Russia is issued, which indicates:
- data of a foreign national;
- reason for his arrival;
- period of stay in the country.

What does the migration map of Russia look like?
This document is issued for each newcomer, if he has the right to temporary stay in the country. The migration card of Russia is an ordinary paper sheet on which there is some information about who it was issued to, the purpose of his visit and the estimated time spent here, as well as a unique number.
This form is required for residence in the country, travel abroad, for employment and the beginning of registration of documents such as a temporary residence permit in the country or a residence permit. How is MK filled?
The migration map of Russia consists of two parts. On one of them indicate the data on entry into the country, and on the opposite are entered marks on the exit. Data is entered in Russian.
If a foreign citizen comes with his family, each of them, including children, is issued a separate migration card for Russia. A sample of paper filling is provided; all data is entered by the foreigner himself. For minors or the legally incompetent, parents or guardians can fill out the form.
What is included in the column “Purpose of visit”
The paragraph of the document “Purpose of the visit” should contain reliable information about what brought the foreign citizen to the Russian Federation. For example, if you indicate the purpose of further employment in the country, then you can apply for patent for work.
If “tourism” is indicated as the purpose of the visit, then it will be impossible to obtain a patent. Therefore, it is not necessary to indicate inaccurate data, since the migration service checks the information and controls every visitor from another country.
If violations of foreign nationals are discovered, they can be deported from Russia at any time, and it will be impossible to return. In addition, a penalty is provided for the discrepancy between the activities of a citizen and the purpose of the visit.
Validity of the document and its extension
It should be remembered that the migration card of Russia has a time limit of 90 days. After this period, the form becomes invalid.
But there are certain circumstances that allow to increase the length of stay in the country. For example, admission to training or employment in Russia. They require an extension of MK.
The easiest way to extend the duration of the Russian migration card is to travel outside the country and go back. This can be done in one day, if there is no reason to leave Russia for a long time. Upon returning to the territory of the state, a new form is issued for 90 days of residence in the country. If at that moment the foreign citizen's card was expired, then he faces a fine for violation of the migration regime of 5000 rubles.
But not every foreigner has the amount of money to buy tickets in order to extend the document. There is an alternative way - by contacting the OUFMS at the place of residence. There are good reasons to extend your migration card, for example:
- apparatus employed;
- applying for citizenship;
- enrollment in one of the Russian universities and so on.
For visitors from Ukraine in the country special conditions. Their MK is extended after applying at the place of residence to the migration service.
