Legislation in this area is constantly evolving. Currently, one of the main documents determining how much to serve in the army is Federal Law N 53-FZ of 03/28/1998 "On Military Duty and Military Service". Not so long ago, the Government of the Russian Federation gradually began to increase the prestige of contract service by making adjustments to the main document. So, for example, in 2006, Federal Law No. 104-FZ of July 6, 2006 was adopted, which established a smooth reduction in service life. So, in 2007, draftees of the autumn draft had to serve 1.5 years, and since the beginning of 2008 - only 1 year.
How many serve in the army on conscription?
Such a service is considered more difficult than contractual, because a soldier must constantly be on the territory of the part in which he is determined, strictly follow the charter and observe discipline.
How many serve in the army 2015? Since 2008, urgent military training lasts only a year. Opinions about just such a period are opposite. Many believe that this period is not enough to prepare a competently trained person who is able to adequately defend the honor and rights of our homeland. It is difficult to master the complicated military-technical specialties in the allotted framework and manage to conduct all kinds of training and exercises, including those close to military ones.
It is not surprising that against this background many rumors are born that the service life will increase. However, there is no reason to believe that this will happen in the near future, since at the moment there is not a single official source that would consider this initiative. Thus, we can safely assume that they will serve in 2016 as much as they serve in the Army 2015, namely, one year. When are they drafted into the army?

Contract service: how long?
Military personnel who have served for at least three months or have higher education always have an alternative: to serve a year or sign a contract. A relatively more relaxed daily routine can also serve as a positive factor, because contract service is much closer to normal work.
For those who want to conclude an agreement, the following conditions of the first contract are offered:
- officers and midshipmen - 5 years;
- privates, sergeants, foremen and sailors - 3 years;
- The first contract for a foreigner who wishes to serve in our army as a sailor, soldier, sergeant or foreman - 5 years.
After the conclusion of the contract, it will be necessary to strictly follow all the prescribed conditions and be in military service for the entire period. The end date of the service coincides with the last day of the contract. However, if a conscript who agrees to contract service changes his mind after the lapse of time, he will still have to serve the due date as a conscript. In this case, the remaining period will be calculated by the formula: two days under the contract are equal to one day as a regular conscript.
Is there an alternative and how much do they serve in the army in this case?
Conscripts have a choice of how to repay a debt to their homeland. Changes in the Russian army are indeed taking place, especially in connection with the events taking place. But for the most part they relate to organization and equipment. New teaching methods are being developed and introduced, weapons purchased with which the employees are introduced, equipment is being revised.
For example, an alternative service program has been developed for university students.
It includes training at the military department and passing compulsory practice. During this period, students learn everything that is necessary in order to consider military service completed. But, unfortunately, not all universities have this opportunity, so many will have to serve in the army according to general rules.
Few people know, but there is another legitimate alternative to military service. So, for example, if personal beliefs or religion do not allow carrying out military service with arms, then a citizen of the Russian Federation of draft age has the right to refuse service and choose an alternative civil service. Is an alternative service paid?
